Chelsea have completed the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Omari Kellyman in a deal worth up to £19m.

Kellyman’s move to Stamford Bridge comes less than 24 hours after his former club Aston Villa agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Ian Maatsen.

Highly-rated attacking midfielder Kellyman has signed a six-year contract with the Blues, which includes the option of a further year, and will link up with his new team-mates during pre-season.

The 18-year-old made two Premier League appearances last season and has represented England at youth level.

‘It is fantastic to be standing here as a Chelsea player,’ Kellyman said. ‘It’s a massive club with an amazing history, so it is great to join.

‘It is a dream come true for sure. I’m buzzing to have put on the shirt and can’t wait to get started.’

Kellyman becomes Chelsea’s third signing so far this summer following English defender Tosin Adarabioyo and Brazilian winger Estevao Willian, who will spend another season at Palmeiras before moving to west London next summer.

Maatsen’s move to Villa Park was confirmed on Friday, with Chelsea agreeing to sell the Netherlands defender for £35m.

He only made 16 appearances for the Blues but impressed on loan at Borussia Dortmund last season, helping the Bundesliga side reach the Champions League final.

Maatsen, who is Villa’s second signing of the summer following Everton striker Lewis Dobbin, is currently in Germany with the Dutch Euros squad.

Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League last season after a late surge under Mauricio Pochettino, who then left Stamford Bridge to be replaced by ex-Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, enjoyed a brilliant season under Unai Emery, finishing fourth to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
