Chelsea have decided to not permanently sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
The decision means that Chelsea are now required to pay a £5 million penalty fee to United.
Chelsea signed Sancho on a season-long loan from United last summer after he fell out of favour with Erik ten Hag, who was then sacked in October.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Sancho scored five goals and registered 10 assists in 41 appearances, while Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League and won the Conference League.
Chelsea had the option to sign Sancho for £25m this summer but according to The Athletic, the Conference League winners have been unable to reach an agreement with the winger over personal terms.

Sancho, who United signed in a £72.9m deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, still has one year left on his contract worth £300,000 a week.
Speaking about Sancho’s future at Chelsea last week, Enzo Maresca said: ‘From now on we are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year.
‘If we finish fourth it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon. It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down, it is part of the game.’
Meanwhile, Gary Neville believes there is no way back for Sancho at United, even with Ruben Amorim replacing Ten Hag as manager.
‘I’d be a bit concerned that Chelsea haven’t made the noises that they’re going to keep him,’ Neville said this week.
‘Again, Manchester United have to make sure they part ways with him and, from Jadon’s point of view, he has to make sure that he parts ways with Manchester United.’
