Chelsea have been handed a fresh injury scare as Enzo Fernandez has withdrawn from international duty with Argentina.

The 24-year-old played 78 minutes in Argentina’s 1-0 friendly win against Venezuela at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Friday night.

Argentina, who have already qualified for the World Cup next summer, are due to play Puerto Rico in another friendly at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday night.

However, Fernandez has pulled out of Argentina’s squad due to a knee injury.

Argentina’s medical team have revealed that the Chelsea midfielder is suffering from inflammation in his right knee and the national side have confirmed the midfielder will now return to London.

Chelsea are scheduled to play Nottingham Forest in their next Premier League game at 12:30pm next Saturday.

Fernandez has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers so far this season with three goals and an assist in his first seven Premier League matches.

Only Moises Caicedo has played more minutes for Chelsea this season.
