Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are coming up on their final game of the season, and that takes place against the 2-14 Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, January 4, on the road. The Chiefs have a 6-10 record going into the game, and they’ve been eliminated from the playoffs, so the season is ending on a sour note, but there’s always reason to be excited in Chiefs Kingdom.
Kelce, of course, has a big retirement decision to make. Will he return for one more try at getting another championship or will he retire and start his life NFL-free with Taylor Swift? It’s a huge decision, and he hasn’t publicly say which way he’s leaning. If he does come back, he’ll be determined to make sure the Chiefs’ 2026-27 season doesn’t end the way this one did.
In what may be a hint at Kelce’s decision, the Kansas City Chiefs are asking fans, over and over again, to do something for Kelce. The team has taken to social media several times to ask their viewers to help, and they aren’t slowing down until they get their wish.
Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce Up for an Honor
Each year, a player in the NFL gets the prized Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, which recognizes an NFL player for his excellence on and off the field. The award, according to the NFL’s official website, was established in 1970 and was renamed in 1999 after the late Hall of Fame running back, Walter Payton.
Each team gets to nominate “one player who has had a significant positive impact on his community,” according to the NFL, “with one winner selected from the 32 club winners.” The Chiefs picked Kelce this season.
“Each year, club winners are recognized beginning in Week 14 with a WPMOY trophy silhouette helmet decal applied through the end of the season,” the NFL adds. “In addition, all current players who have received this esteemed award are honored with a trophy silhouette patch on the front of their jerseys.”
As for what’s up for grabs, the winner of the award each year receives up to a $250,000 donation to the charity of his choice. Also, all 32 club winners receive up to a $40,000 donation to their charity of choice. All donations come from the NFL Foundation and Nationwide Foundation.
So, the Chiefs are asking fans to vote with pleas on social media. They keep posting about it, too. The NFL will announce the winner on live at NFL Honors on Thursday, February 5.
Travis Kelce, Yes, Will Play in the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders Game
On Monday, December 29, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced if Kelce will be playing in that last game of the regular season. The Chiefs, according to NFL research, fell out of the playoffs officially with their loss on December 14 to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Reid said that Kelce will play in the Las Vegas Raiders game. It may mark his final time getting in the No. 87 for the Chiefs. When asked by a reporter if Kelce would play against the Las Vegas Raiders, Reid simply said, “Yes.” Enough said.
