The Kansas City Chiefs are once again one of the hottest teams in the NFL, and they’re 2-2 going into the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Jags on Monday, October 6. The Chiefs‘ last game was pretty much a blowout against the Baltimore Ravens, and it ended with a strong 37-20 finish.
Head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs had a thrilling game, and it actually marked his 200th regular-season game as the Chiefs’ head coach. It was all roses for Reid, because this also was his 145th win overseeing Kansas City. He’s such a great coach and deserves the accolades.
So, the Chiefs should already be pumped going into their next game after that hefty win over the Ravens. But, it always helps to get a little extra confidence boost, too. That’s why when the Chiefs made a special announcement on Wednesday, October 1, it meant even more than normal.
Patrick Mahomes News Comes at the Perfect Time
The Kansas City Chiefs made a big announcement on Wednesday, October 1, right at noon, noting that quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. In a post on X, those from the Chiefs Kingdom flocked the to post, one stating, “Absolutely deserved.
On Instagram, the Chiefs noted, “A dominant performance. Congrats to Patrick Mahomes on being named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.”
What’s also cool is that during the game, Mahomes became the youngest player in NFL history to 250 career touchdown passes, according to the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes fired four touchdown passes on Sunday, making him the youngest player – at 30 years and 11 days old – in NFL history to hit the 250 career touchdowns mark,” senior team reporter Matt McMullen said.
McMullen added, “Additionally, Mahomes did so in just 116 career regular-season games, making him the fastest player in league history to hit that mark, too. Mahomes passed Dan Marino in terms of age and Aaron Rodgers in games played in those respective record books.”
How the Chiefs Are Looking in Power Rankings
In the NFL’s latest power rankings, published on Tuesday, September 30, Eric Edholm puts the Chiefs at No. 9. In the piece, Edholm notes that, yes, it was easy to see how important it was to get Xavier Worthy back in the game, and he certainly helped with that 37-20 win over Baltimore. Having Worthy back helped some fantasy teams, too.
“His mere presence helped open things up, and Worthy averaged a scalding 17.3 yards per touch in his first game back from a Week 1 shoulder injury,” Edholm adds. “When Patrick Mahomes has a trustworthy offensive line in front of him and playmakers to throw to, K.C.’s usually in good shape. Even the running backs did some damage against the Ravens‘ troubled defense, which was a nice sign.
Edholm also praised the Chiefs‘ defense, as he should, “with Chris Jones turning in a star performance after attending his aunt’s funeral in Mississippi. At 2-2, Andy Reid and Co. aren’t out of the woods yet, but this game announced they’re not going anywhere.”
So, while the start of the season was off to a rocky start, it appears the Chiefs are blossoming again. They’re doing it just in time, too.
