The Kansas City Chiefs have rounded out the quarterback room ahead of their Week 16 contest with the Tennessee Titans.
With Patrick Mahomes sidelined following ACL and LCL surgery and Gardner Minshew starting on Sunday, December 20, the Chiefs signed former Pittsburgh Steelers QB Chris Oladokun to the active roster via the practice squad Saturday.
Kansas City accompanied that move with several others, including activations, injury designations and an outright waive.
“We have signed Practice Squad players T Chukwuebuka Godrick, QB Chris Oladokun and RB Dameon Pierce to active roster contracts,” Kansas City wrote on its official X account. “We have activated Practice Squad players LB Cole Christiansen and T Matt Waletzko via Standard Elevation. We have placed LB Leo Chenal and T Jawaan Taylor on Reserve/Injured. We have waived RB Elijah Mitchell.”
Chris Oladokun Has Been Member of Chiefs’ Practice Squad for Much of Past 4 Seasons

Oladokun, 28, played two years of college football at South Florida (nine total appearances) before transferring and finishing his collegiate career at South Dakota State. The Steelers made him a seventh-round pick (No. 241 overall) in the 2022 NFL draft.
He joined the Chiefs’ practice squad in August 2022 and has inked multiple reserve/future contracts with the team. Kansas City has also waived Oladokun on more than one occasion, though he has never been a member of another organization since joining the Chiefs four seasons ago.
Oladokun has appeared in just one regular season game over the course of his career, throwing one pass for five yards back in 2024. He stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 213 pounds.
Chiefs Sideline 9 Players With Injury Designations Ahead of Titans Game

The Chiefs (6-8) can not earn a playoff spot in the AFC regardless of how they play for the remainder of the season. As such, the injury report for Sunday’s game in Tennessee is extensive, as the team looks to preserve its roster health heading into the offseason.
“Trent McDuffie, Leo Chenal, Jaylon Moore, Rashee Rice, Jawaan Taylor, Tyquan Thornton, Jake Briningstool, Nazeeh Johnson and Derrick Nnadi are out for Sunday’s game against the Titans,” the Chiefs posted to X Friday.
Kansas City’s decision to sideline so many of its key contributors isn’t necessarily indicative of an attempt to tank, though losing over the remainder of the year is better for the Chiefs at this point than capturing any more wins.
The team currently holds six draft picks in 2026 and would select No. 12 overall in the first round if the draft was today. Kansas City has several areas of need to address in the offseason, including along the interior of the defensive line, the edge rush and the running back position.
Free agency won’t be as good of a pathway to adding talent as the draft because the Chiefs are currently $46 million in the red with regards to the 2026 salary cap.
Inexpensive rookie talent will be important for Kansas City to rebuild its roster next year, which means the team needs to hit on the majority of its minimal selections. And the higher the Chiefs pick in each round, the easier that will be to accomplish.
