If the New Orleans Saints were open to trading veteran running back Alvin Kamara, which team might make the most sense as a landing spot?
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports thinks Kamara would be a good fit for the Broncos, and that’s true. The veteran RB may fit in better in Kansas City with the Chiefs.
Kamara’s a dual-threat who would give Patrick Mahomes a dynamic new weapon and Andy Reid a tad more creative flexibility.
Isiah Pacheco is a tough, physical runner, but he’s not the type of multidimensional weapon that forces defenses to account for every blade of grass. Kareem Hunt isn’t the player he once was. Kamara’s ability to run between the tackles, motion out and create mismatches against linebackers would give Mahomes and Reid a talented new chess piece to play with.
A Look Back at Kamara’s 8 Seasons With the Saints
Kamara was drafted by the Saints in the third round (67th overall) of the 2017 draft, and he made an immediate impact, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors while finishing with 728 rushing yards and 826 receiving yards in his debut season—becoming the first rookie ever to hit the 700/700 mark. He earned Pro Bowl selections in each of his first five seasons, and is a two-time second-team All‑Pro selection, as well.
Over his eight seasons with the Saints, Kamara has racked up 6,779 yards and 60 TDs on the ground, 4,762 receiving yards and 25 receiving TDs in 115 career games.
He hasn’t shown any signs he’s slowing down, either. In 14 games last year, he rushed for 950 yards and added 543 receiving yards, netting eight total TDs. He missed the final three games in 2024 with a groin injury, but he still finished strong. His durability and ability to produce year in and year out remain undeniable, even as he’s set to turn 30 at the end of July. In eight years, he has never finished with fewer than 1,160 total yards from scrimmage.
Kamara signed a two‑year, $24.5 million extension in October 2024 that keeps him under contract through 2026. He shot down trade rumors mid-way through the 2024 season, but could an opportunity to play for a perennial contender like the Chiefs intrigue him? We think so.
What Could the Kansas City Chiefs Offer the Saints in a Trade for RB Alvin Kamara?

GettyShould the Chiefs try to trade for RB Alvin Kamara?
A realistic trade package might include Kansas City’s 2026 fourth-round pick. They currently have two, one of which they got from the Chicago Bears in the Joe Thuney trade. That kind of offer could appeal to New Orleans, who’d clear significant cap space and snag some draft picks all at once. For the Chiefs, it’s a move that would add another elite weapon to an already dangerous offense.
Like Travis Kelce, Kamara’s presence in the screen game and as a reliable outlet could help alleviate pressure on Mahomes when protection breaks down. Kansas City hasn’t had this type of pass-catching threat out of the backfield since the days of Jamaal Charles—and Kamara’s vision and route-running may be even better.
In a conference stacked with firepower, a trade for Kamara would be a calculated swing to stay ahead of teams like the Ravens, Bengals, and Bills.
