Chris Eubank Snr has sensationally claimed Conor Benn is the ‘superior fighter’ to his son despite his victory over his rival on Saturday night.

Eubank Jr sealed an unanimous points win over Benn at a sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a thrilling domestic dust-up.

Benn had been joined by his father and British boxing legend Nigel throughout the build-up to the fight with Eubank Snr conspicuous by his absence with his relationship with his son growing strained in recent years.

The former middleweight and super-middleweight champion had been a vocal critic of the fight, labelling it a ‘disgrace’ as recently as this week.

But in a major plot twist on the night, Eubank Snr returned to his son’s side just hours before the opening bell on fight night.

After the battle, Eubank Snr had special praise for Benn, who moved up two weight divisions to fight his son having spent the vast majority of his career to date campaigning at welterweight.

He went onto slam Benn’s team for allowing the 28-year-old to make that move up to 160lbs, insisting he is being ‘destroyed by the people who are handling him’.

‘I was always going to be here for my son, irrespective of what you thought,’ Eubank told talkSPORT.

‘Suspense is part of the game. The performance, championship rounds, standing toe to toe.

‘The credit I am going to give to Conor. I told you he was a superior fighter, but he shouldn’t be fighting at 160lbs.

‘He is a 147lbs fighter. What couldn’t he do around the world? He has been destroyed by the people who are handling him.

‘They need to be held to account. Do your job, do your job, do your job!’

Eubank Jr did not attend the post-fight press conference, taken to hospital as a precautionary measure with Benn claiming he had suffered a broken jaw.

Benn was asked what Eubank Snr had said to him after the defeat, telling reporters: ‘I looked at Chris Sner and said to him, “I’m so happy you are here”.

‘Because outside of everything else all the noise and promotion, your relationship with your dad never goes. That’s longstanding.

‘Because what is boxing? I pick the relationship with my dad over boxing any day. So if this has brought them together, that’s worth its weight in gold.’
