The San Francisco 49ers endured a disappointing 2024 campaign for several reasons. Easily the biggest of the bunch, though, was the fact that the team was plagued by injuries before they even took the field for their first game of the season. One guy who was part of the team’s widespread injury bug issues was star running back Christian McCaffrey, as he only managed to suit up in four games for the 49ers.
After playing a vital role in leading San Francisco to Super Bowl LVIII, McCaffrey missed the start of the regular season with calf and Achilles injuries, eventually returning in Week 10. He didn’t last long, though, as he suffered a PCL injury in Week 13, ending his season prematurely. He’s been hard at work getting himself healthy, though, and he recently went viral on social media for a picture he took with Bijan Robinson and his younger brother, Luke McCaffrey.
Christian McCaffrey Looks Ready to Go for 2025 Campaign
Prior to his injury-plagued 2024 season, McCaffrey put together the best season of his career in 2023 with the Niners. In 16 games, McCaffrey racked up 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also catching 67 passes for 564 yards and another seven scores. McCaffrey earned his fourth Pro Bowl selection, his second All-Pro First Team honor, and the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year Award.
After San Francisco came up just short of winning a championship, the expectation was that McCaffrey would put together another strong season to help the 49ers make a run back to the Super Bowl. That never ended up happening, though, as the team crawled to a 6-11 record, missing the playoffs entirely.
The 49ers are obviously hoping to find their way back into the postseason next year, and McCaffrey will play a big role in determining how their upcoming campaign goes. The good news is that Christian looks absolutely jacked in a new photo of him alongside Robinson and Luke, which is bad news for the rest of the league.
Christian McCaffrey, 49ers Hoping to Get Back on Track in 2025

Injuries are a part of the game, and unfortunately, they have played a big role in McCaffrey’s career. When he’s healthy, though, he’s arguably the most dominant running back in the league, which is what the 49ers will be hoping to see from him this upcoming season. Given all the talent San Francisco has shed over the offseason, they will need to get more production from McCaffrey if they intend on proving that they are, in fact, still a Super Bowl contender.
There’s no doubt that McCaffrey has the ability to reemerge as the superstar playmaker he was in 2023; he just needs to stay healthy. With the rest of the offense, including guys like quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, also getting healthy, San Francisco has reason to believe they can return to the playoffs in 2025. And if they do, chances are that will mean McCaffrey has enjoyed a successful return to the field after a limited 2024 campaign.
