On Saturday August 30, 2025, Chubba and the Nevada Wolf Pack are tabbed for a big ranked matchup against the No. 2 Penn State Nittany Lions.

Here is everything you need to know about Brock Purdy’s brother, Chubba Purdy.

1. Chubba Backed Up Brock in High School

Like most siblings, Brock and Chubba Purdy went to the same high school, Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona.

But younger brother Chubba had the unique experience of backing up Brock at the quarterback position in his freshman and sophomore year of high school.

When Brock graduated, Gilbert Tigers fans didn’t miss a beat, or have to learn a new last name. Chubba immediately took over for Brock and led Gilbert to back-to-back deep state playoff runs. They even made it to the 6A state championship Chubba’s junior year in 2018, though they ultimately lost.

Chubba was the Arizona Offensive Player of the Year his senior season in 2019, recording 4,423 yards of total offense and 52 touchdowns.

2. Chubba Was A Higher-Rated College Prospect Than Brock

While Brock Purdy was only a three-star recruit out of high school, Chubba Purdy was actually a four-star recruit.

That’s largely because Chubba is bigger than Brock, more athletic, and a better runner.

But while Brock went on to be a legend at Iowa State, Chubba has struggled to consistently perform at the collegiate level.

3. Chubba Has Made A Start At 3 Division 1 Colleges

This season will be Chubba’s sixth collegiate season and second at Nevada. It’s the first time in his college career that he was named the starting quarterback to open the season, but far from his first collegiate start.

Chubba has also made starts at Florida State and Nebraska, where he spent two seasons each.

However, he is still looking for his first collegiate win as a starter. He is 0-6 in 6 starts: 1 at Florida State, 4 at Nebraska and 1 at Nevada.

Will the Wolf Pack do the impossible and get Chubba his first career win against Penn State?

4. Chubba’s Career Has Been Hampered By Injuries

A big reason why Chubba’s career has spanned 6 seasons, 5 commitments and 3 programs is because he has dealt with three major injuries in his college career.

He broke his collarbone as a true freshman at Florida State, broke his ankle as a redshirt sophomore at Nebraska, and required double groin surgery right before joining Nevada in 2024.

Purdy’s goal is to finish 13 games for Nevada this season, and if he’s healthy, it sounds like Head Coach Jeff Choate is committed to starting him.

“I feel like he can help us win a championship,” Choate said after a recent Nevada practice

5. Chubba Recently Threw Out The First Pitch for the Reno Aces

The University of Nevada, Reno football program has had a tough few seasons. They’ve won only 7 games and lost 30 since 2022. Their conference record is an even more disastrous 2-21 in those three seasons.

But the excitement for this season under second-year head coach is clearly palpable in the Reno community.

All the way back on June 13, the AAA Reno Aces baseball team, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, invited Purdy out to throw out the first pitch.

A crowd of 6,644 Reno locals turned out and got a glimpse of Nevada’s new starting QB. They also got to see a massive 20-7 win over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Jake McCarthy went 4-of-5 with a home run and 4 RBIs.

Nevada fans are excited about Chubba Purdy. Hopefully he can make a name for himself in the rest of the college football world.
