Cincinnati Bengals Provide Important Update on Joe Burrow

Most Cincinnati Bengals fans have noticed by now that they’ve been missing their starting quarterback for most of this season. Yep, it’s true, all-world QB Joe Burrow went down Week 2 with a bum toe and was expected to miss three months.

So, that would put him possibly back sometime in December and the team has been trying (poorly to quite poorly) to tread water without him.

Head coach Zac Taylor said this week that everything he’s heard on Burrow so far has been positive.

“He’s been good. I don’t have any updates [on the progress]. It’s gone as we had hoped,” Taylor said. “He’s had a great attitude, great energy about him. He’s in the meetings, met with him one-on-one, he’s been great to be around, optimistic and things have been going well, but I don’t have any update on the timeline.”

So, when you gave us an update, “I don’t have any update” was part of the update. I guess it’s better than hearing that he suffered a setback on his Roll-A-Bout in his kitchen (I don’t think he has a Roll-A-Bout, but you get the point).

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver says Joe Burrow seems to be doing well

Outside of probably Bengals’ owner Mike Brown (he doesn’t like to cut checks for players who are on the field), no one misses Burrow more than Ja’Marr Chase. Sure, his overall numbers are very healthy, but if you watch the Bengals from game to game (especially with Jake Browning playing quarterback) you could tell that Chase misses his buddy.

“I can tell his mood when he’s overly happy. When he’s overly happy, I can 100% see that,” Chase said last week. “Other than that … well, when he’s pissed. I for sure know that one. He cursed me out a couple of times, so I know when he’s pissed too.”

Chase still leads the NFL with 70 catches, despite on having Burrow for about a game and a half. Also despite having Browning for a few games. He’s also got 720 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season.

“He’s working pretty hard for the majority of the times that I’ve seen him in a training room working,” Chase added. “I try to walk in there, give him a couple of laughs. So, you know, make his day a little better, but he’s working.”

Joe Flacco has filled in for Joe Burrow well

The Bengals all of a sudden got a ray of hope when they traded for quarterback Joe Flacco a few weeks ago. He’s been very good and really has been the difference between having a chance to win and not. Flacco has been dealing with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder this last week and that’s never a good thing, especially when you are trying to throw a football and not cry.

Flacco didn’t practice on Wednesday, scaring Bengals fans everywhere that he might not be able to play this Sunday against the Chicago Bears. However, he did practice on Thursday and Taylor said it’s a 50-50 chance that he’ll play.

If Flacco can’t go, it will be – you guessed it – Browning starting in his place.
