Clippers Trade Idea Dumps John Collins for Disgruntled Star Point Guard

The Los Angeles Clippers are in an all-in year.

Their roster is veteran-heavy, to say the least, and they understand the future is now given the current construction of the roster.

But even with all their experienced, savvy players, they haven’t started the 2025-26 NBA season off great.

Currently, the Clippers are a poor defensive team and a middling offensive team, ranking 26th and 16th, respectively, according to advanced metrics.

If they have any hopes of competing for a championship this season, it’s fair to question if they’ll be able to with how the team is currently built.

Is there a trade out there that could turn around Los Angeles’ fortunes?

Clippers Trade Proposal Lands Grizzlies’ Ja Morant

In a trade idea first proposed by Yossi Gozlan of AP Hoops, the Los Angeles Clippers could acquire disgruntled point guard Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies.

Los Angeles Clippers receive: Ja Morant, John Konchar

Memphis Grizzlies receive: John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, 2030 1st round pick

In what would be a home run trade for the Clippers, they could land a young star to inject new life into the franchise and improve their current outlook this season.

“I think they (Clippers) have as much a shot as any of these teams that we mentioned so far, again minimal downside for them because of their age, really they have no upside on this roster,” Gozlan told co-host Sam Quinn.

“Now the Clippers are going to have a lot of cap space, flexibility over these next two years, Ja Morant’s not going to be a free agent by then, so they would have to make the trade for him.”

For a Clippers team lacking in youth and athleticism, Morant is the perfect solution to Los Angeles’ issues.

He would add a new dimension to their offense, supplanting James Harden and Chris Paul as the team’s starting point guard.

Los Angeles could rebuild their offense around Morant, tailoring it to his strengths as he becomes the new face of the Clippers.

Would the Grizzlies Trade Ja Morant?

Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies seem to be on the outs.

So far in 2025-26, he’s had to serve a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team and has made headlines in the media with his post-game comments.

Most recently, he told the media he’s lost his joy playing in Memphis.

It makes the most sense that he’s on his way out of town, and even if the Grizzlies have no intention of trading their star point guard, he can make things uncomfortable in Memphis by forcing his way out.

After trading Desmond Bane this offseason, it’s obvious the Grizzlies are in retooling mode, and trading Morant would provide them with more assets for a rebuild.

When analyzing the trade proposal, Gautam Varier of Fadeaway World highlighted the positives to this return from the Los Angeles Clippers.

“The Grizzlies would be hitting the reset button by trading Morant and would have one great draft pick in this mock trade,” wrote Varier.

“By the time 2030 comes around, the Clippers are unlikely to be all that good. Morant and Ivica Zubac would be pretty much all they have to work with, provided they don’t manage to land a top free agent at some point.”

If the Grizzlies are done putting up with Morant’s antics, this wouldn’t be a bad way to reset your franchise’s fortunes.
