Tyreek Hill has shined as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins. However, his controversies on and off the field have jaded some people into thinking the team should move on from him. Colin Cowherd is one of those examples.
Hill has been with the Dolphins since the 2022 season after he left Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs that offseason. He desired a major contract even though he won a Super Bowl with them in 2019, believing that he can shine as the top receiver for Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins instead.
Cowherd uploaded a July 24 segment of his show The Herd, going over topics happening in the NFL. One of them involved Hill and the Dolphins, as the sports host expressed his issues regarding the pair.
Cowherd makes the point that Hill has outgrown his welcome in Miami after three seasons. He also said that the Chiefs won without Hill and that tight ends are more important than the receiving corps.
“It’s time for Tyreek Hill to eventually grow up. Again, the Cowboys had to move off Dez Bryant, he couldn’t. Stefon Diggs, who I really like. Josh Allen’s like, ‘enough.’ Kyle Shanahan, Deebo Samuel, Steelers on AB. I mean, the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls the minute Tyreek Hill left, they went with the old slow tight end,” Cowherd said at the 1:24 mark.
“Great great wide receivers are a little bit like those like Christmas tree toppers. It’s the first thing you look at and that they add value, but it doesn’t keep the tree upright. Like, you can’t build around it foundationally. In fact, I’ve argued this with football people. I think a great tight end is more valuable than a great receiver because tight ends block and help the run game and they don’t get marginalized in December and January with bad weather.”

Colin Cowherd’s comments about Tyreek Hill after hearing Dolphins star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s thoughts about his relationship with the wide receiver.
What he said drew plenty of attention, saying the connection is still a work in progress, per Pro Football Talk.
“We’re still continuing to do that, but it’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that. A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek, that are fans of his, everyone has seen that,” Tagovailoa said.
“So when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You’ve got to work that relationship up, you’ve got to build everything up again. It’s still a work in progress, not just for me but for everybody. But like I said, he’s working on himself, he’s working on the things he says he wants to get better with and do better on. So that’s the first step to me so I commend him for doing that.”
Hill has been active in the Dolphins’ starting lineup on offense, only missing one game throughout his three seasons with the team. He helped Miami make the playoffs twice in 2022 and 2023, recording back-to-back 1,700-yard seasons in the process.
2024 saw him and the Dolphins take a step back. Injuries to Tagovailoa stunted the squad’s ceiling on offense, which limited Hill and others’ chances to explode with great performances. They finished with an 8-9 record as they missed the postseason, something they will look to rectify in the 2025 campaign.
