Colin Cowherd Urges Bucks to Trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to West Contender

The Milwaukee Bucks opened up their season with a win this week, besting the Washington Wizards 133-120.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was magnificent, dropping 37 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists.

But it still wasn’t enough to quell the trade speculation surrounding the two-time MVP.

Colin Cowherd, host of FS1’s The Herd, disregarded the Bucks’ 1-0 start and dove straight into a Giannis trade idea.

Cowherd wants the Golden State Warriors to trade for Antetokounmpo, solidifying their chances at a championship.

Despite Milwaukee’s strong season opener, the Greek Freak’s exit from the Bucks will likely remain a talking point for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Cowherd’s Warriors Trade Proposal

Cowherd, a longtime sports radio and television host, urged the Golden State Warriors to make the trade for Antetokounmpo, regardless of what the Milwaukee Bucks want.

He wants the Warriors to send Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, and four first-round picks to the Bucks for the 2021 Finals MVP’s services.

Jimmy Butler is a fling. He’s not a phase. He’s not a phase. And I think it’s time for the fling at the trade deadline to end,” Cowherd said.

“I would trade Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, and four first-round picks for Giannis. And see if it’s enough.”

While an exciting move for Golden State, would Milwaukee accept? According to Cowherd, yes.

“First-round picks are going to be more valuable than they were the previous decade. This last draft, very domestic, very good. 2026 draft is supposed to be better.”

While Cowherd’s trade proposal sounds good on the surface, it wouldn’t work.

The salaries of Butler and Kuminga don’t match Antetokounmpo’s, and the Bucks would have to attach a player like Kyle Kuzma to make the trade possible.

Even then, would Milwaukee make the deal? The answer is likely no.

Why the Bucks Won’t Trade Giannis

While the thought exercise of pairing Antetokounmpo up with superstars around the league like Steph Curry, Victor Wembanyama, or Jalen Brunson is fun, the Milwaukee Bucks have zero motivation to cut ties with their homegrown superstar.

The Greek Freak is under contract for two more seasons, and even if this year ends in failure, they’ll still have one more year of contractual control before he becomes a free agent.

A trade would only come to fruition if Giannis decides to force the Bucks’ hand, which is something he has repeatedly declined to do.

At the team’s media day, the press asked Antetokounmpo about his feelings on an exit from Milwaukee after the report from Shams Charania came to light about his interest in the New York Knicks.

“First of all, I haven’t read that story. When the season starts, I try to get off social media and I try to focus on my craft and the team, but yeah, I’ve said many times, I want to be in a situation that I can win and now I’m here. I believe in this team. I believe in my teammates,” Antetokounmpo told The Athletic’s Eric Nehm.

“So all the extra stuff does not matter. I think I’ve communicated with my teammates, communicated with the people I respect and love that the moment I step on this court or in this facility, I wear this jersey, the rest does not matter.”
