Colt Knost Levels Up in Golf Coverage

Back in 2019, Colt Knost joined CBS as an on-course reporter at select golf events. By 2021, he began working full-time for the network and has ever since. Recently, CBS Sports announced another change for Knost, one that elevates him to an analyst position.

Knost will take over for the recently retired Ian Baker-Finch, who spent 18 years with CBS. Knost built his reputation through his sports coverage and the professional golf career that brought him to where he is today.

Knost’s Golf Career

Prior to his successful coverage career, Knost himself was a player. One of his best years as a golfer was his 2007 season. That year Knost won the U.S. Amateur, took home first place at the U.S. Public Links, and represented America at the Walker Cup.

Shortly after this successful season Knost turned pro. This decision forced him to forfeit his U.S. Am Champ invitations that would’ve seen him compete in the Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship.

Knost went on to win twice on the Nationwide Tour, now know as the Korn Ferry Tour. This secured his PGA Tour card for the 2009 season, where he played until his retirement in 2020. In a 2022 interview with Golfweek, Knost reflected on how his golf career led to his current situation, stating,

“I honestly feel like this is what I was meant to do.”

“Playing on Tour for eight years was just the thing that transferred me into being what I’m supposed to be and that’s being on TV.”

Recent Elevation

Knost’s hard work and dedication to golf has earned him this promotion. The 40-year-old has made an impression on players and fans alike thanks to his ability to connect with viewers and players while maintaining a positive nature. Back in a 2022 interview with Golfweek, lead producer at CBS Sellers Shy commented on Knost’s presence, stating,

“He has the perfect blend of humility with his self-deprecating humor combined with a true knowledge of the game, and his resume speaks to that being a U.S. Amateur champion and 2007 Walker Cup team member.”

“Plus, he has an incredible relationship with today’s players.”

Knost will join host Jim Nantz, in the CBS ‘super tower’ alongside lead analyst Trevor Immelman and analyst Frank Nobilo. Dottie Pepper will continue her role as lead on-course reporter along with on-course reporter Mark Immelman, with Amanda Balionis conducting interviews.

Alongside the announcement, Harold Bryant, CBS Sports’ executive producer and executive vice president of production, said,

“Colt has become a valued voice on our team, bringing insight, energy and his engaging personality to every broadcast.”

“Elevating him alongside Jim, Trevor, and Frank in our Super Tower is a natural next step that reflects the trust and respect he’s earned.”

In a tweet, Knost expressed his gratitude for the promotion, writing,

“All I can say is wow! This is by far the biggest honor of my golf career! Can’t wait to be up in the Super Tower with Jim, Trevor, and my man Frank! Torrey Pines cant get here fast enough! Let’s get this party started!”

Golf coverage with CBS Sports will return for the 2026 season on January 31st at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
