It’s been two weeks of regular-season football with Daniel Jones at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts and the player has already received a new nickname.
The $14 million signing with the Colts has been performing well throughout the first two weeks, throwing for 588 passing yards and 2 touchdown passes. The quarterback has also been a threat with his feet, having recorded three rushing touchdowns so far.
His performances so far have sparked a new nickname in Indianapolis: Daniel ‘Indiana’ Jones.
Jones made an appearance on the ‘Up & Adams Show‘ where he was asked by the host, Kay Adams, about his next given nickname.
“I really don’t have a strong opinion on it,” Jones said. “I had some buddies in town this weekend, they were all about it. They bought some Indiana Jones t-shirts and some… I really don’t care. It’s a nickname.”
The nickname is a play on words with the quarterback’s name, the main character of the Indiana Jones franchise, Dr. Henry Walton ‘Indiana’ Jones, Jr and the name of the team he now plays for, the Indianapolis Colts.
Daniel Jones was formerly known by the nickname ‘Danny Dimes’ during his time with the New York Giants. Now in Indy, the QB has the opportunity to build a legacy with his new nickname.
Daniel Jones In Indianapolis

Daniel Jones has led the Indianapolis Colts to their first 2-0 start to a season since 2009, a notable accomplishment given Peyton Manning’s previous tenure as the organization’s quarterback.
Jones is currently the second leading passer in the NFL with 588 passing yards, only trailing the quarterback at his former team, Russell Wilson of the Giants, who is currently 618 yards.
The quarterback has the 6th-highest completion percentage in the NFL at 71.4, while also having the 6th-highest passer rating of 111.1 through two games so far.
ESPN has released its power rankings after Week 2, with the Colts making a high jump in the list. Indy was ranked as the 23rd team after the season opener, now ranked as the 14th team.
“Jones is giving players the ball in position to run after the catch, which they are doing at a high rate (5.5 YAC per reception). Second, Jones was more aggressive Sunday, delivering more intermediate and deep throws despite a heavy blitz rate from Denver,” Stephen Holder wrote for ESPN.
On To Week 3

Daniel Jones has shown that he was the right player to be the starting QB for the Indianapolis Colts after being in a quarterback battle with Anthony Richardson.
With Week 3 coming up, the Colts can start their season 3-0, which would be the first time since the 2009 season again.
Indy has averaged 31 points (the second-highest in the league) in the first two games of the season and will take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 3, who have averaged just 15.5 points in the same span.
Jones could expect another solid performance for the Colts and it could submit his name as a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year.
