The Indianapolis Colts lost two of their offensive lineman this offseason, center Ryan Kelly and guard Will Fries, both to the Minnesota Vikings.
Losing two of their top offensive linemen in the last few seasons, the Colts had to focus on the position to help their quarterbacks and running backs.
Indy selected offensive tackle Jalen Travis in the 2025 NFL Draft to help reinforce their weakened line.
Head coach Shane Steichen and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter can still add another offensive lineman before the start of the season to have depth on the line.
Colts Named Landing Spot for Free Agent OL

To help fill the depth of the offensive line needs, the Colts are named the logical landing spot for free agent Brandon Scherff by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox.
“Scherff is a starting-caliber guard who has possibly lost a step as a run blocker. For teams more concerned with pass protection, though, he should still generate a considerable amount of interest,” Knox wrote. “While Scherff may turn 34 in December, he’s an established and durable interior lineman who should find a home between now and Week 1. The five-time Pro Bowler hasn’t earned an all-star nod since 2021, but he’s started all 17 games in each of the past three seasons.”
“The Indianapolis Colts should also be interested in Scherff. Indy is about to stage a QB camp competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, and it could use more help along the interior of the offensive line.”
Scherff played the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, including not allowing a single sack last season. The on-field errors for the former Iowa Hawkeye aren’t frequent, as he was penalized only twice last season with the Jags.
Pro Football Focus gave Scherff a pass block grade of 74.5, ranking him 19th out of qualifying guards.
With a quarterback battle brewing in Indianapolis, Richardson and Jones could use the pass protection and extra time to find targets downfield.
Filling the Guard Spot

Brandon Scherff played at the right guard position almost the entirety of his career.
If the Indianapolis Colts were to sign Scherff, he would need to beat out the younger options in Matt Goncalves and Dalton Tucker, who both had snaps at guard last season for Indy.
Goncalves appeared in 17 games and Tucker appeared in 14 games for the Horseshow last season.
Scherff started all 17 games for the Jaguars last season, while Goncalves and Tucker started in 15 games combined in Indianapolis.
The OL is at the latter end of his career, but Brandon Scherff can still provide solid depth for the Colts during the season with his durability.
