Colts Receive Bad News Ahead Of Week 4 Matchup

The injuries woes continue for the Indianapolis Colts.

Head coach Shane Steichen has announced that the team will be without three of its starting players in the Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Wide receiver Alec Pierce, offensive lineman Matt Goncalves and cornerback Kenny Moore will not be facing off against the team’s first NFC opponent of the season.

Pierce suffered a concussion during Week 3, with Steichen giving an update on the wide receiver’s injury, but said that he is “not there yet.” The third-year head coach gave the same update for his injured O-lineman.

Moore also suffered an Achilles injury in the matchup against the Tennessee Titans. A reporter asked the head coach if the team would put the cornerback on injured reserve, but Steichen said they wouldn’t put him on IR “right now.”

For most teams in the NFL, it is next man up to replace an injured player. The Indianapolis Colts should be fine at the wide receiver position without Alec Pierce.

Last season, the Colts had three players who had 800 or more receiving yards, Pierce being one of them. Now, the receiving threats will get more targets in Week 4.

Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie tight end Tyler Warren are tied for the most receiving yards on the team with 193 apiece. WR Josh Downs was one of the receivers who had more than 800 receiving yards and could see a boost in production with Pierce downgraded for Sunday. Adonai Mitchell has entered his second season in the league and should see more snaps with Pierce out for the week.

Second-year guard Dalton Tucker will make his first start of the season, replacing the injured Matt Goncalves.

“He’s a physical tough player,” Steichen said of Tucker. “Obviously, when his number is called, he’ll be ready to go… he played some good ball for us last year. So, we’re looking forward to that.”

The Indianapolis Colts signed cornerback Mike Hilton to the practice squad earlier this week after Kenny Moore suffered an injury. The cornerback has experience with defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, having played under him for the last four years with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hilton said that he is ready to play if needed and with Moore out, he could make his debut for the Colts less than a week after signing with the team.

The Los Angeles Rams will be the first real test for the undefeated Indianapolis Colts.

The Rams are considered Super Bowl contenders and have one of the better defensive lines in the league.

Without key starters in the Week 4 matchup, the Colts will have to play a near-perfect game. The offense will have to click behind starting quarterback Daniel Jones, the run game will have to perform and the receiving threats will need to take advantage of an injured Rams secondary.

If the Colts were to extend their record to 4-0 against LA, they could be considered Super Bowl contenders.
