Colts Sign 17.5-Sack Super Bowl Defensive End Before Steelers Game

The Indianapolis Colts signed defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon to their practice squad, the team announced Monday. To make room for him, Indianapolis released defensive end Seth Coleman.

Kpassagnon, 31, signed with the Chicago Bears in July, and after being part of their final cuts, he re-signed with the practice squad. He had five tackles and a sack in four games.

Kpassagnon has appeared in 108 games with 34 starts over his nine-year NFL career, recording 146 tackles (98 solo), 17.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

The Colts will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9.

Kpassagnon Won a Super Bowl With Chiefs

Kpassagnon, a 2017 second-round pick out of Villanova, played his first four years with the Kansas City Chiefs where he was part of the Super Bowl LIV-winning team. He also spent four seasons in New Orleans with the Saints (2021-24) before signing with the Bears in July.

He was elevated off the practice squad ahead of Week 1 and recorded a sack in a 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears signed Kpassagnon to the active roster on Sept. 20 but released him twice in October between another brief stay on the practice squad.

Injuries Piling Up on Colts’ Defense

The 6-foot-7, 289-pound Kpassagnon will look to carve out a role for the first-place Colts, who own the NFL’s best record at 7-1. He’ll provide insurance to a defensive line dealing with injuries to Samson Ebukam and Tyquan Lewis.

Ebukam is expected to miss multiple weeks with a knee injury sustained during a Week 7 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, while Lewis remains sidelined with a groin injury.

Despite their absences, the Colts rolled to a 38-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday. They sacked Cam Ward four times, forced one turnover, and limited the Titans to 341 total yards.

Coleman, an undrafted rookie out of Illinois, was signed to the Colts’ practice squad last week after a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks. He has yet to log any NFL action.
