The Indianapolis Colts are holding a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. And, based on the live updates from around the social media sphere, it’s not looking good for the Colts.
First and foremost, there are a couple of injuries. Wide receiver Josh Downs left the practice with an apparent hamstring injury, according to ESPN reporter Stephen Holder.
“Colts WR Josh Downs has left practice with a left hamstring injury,” Holder posted on X. “He injured it on a play and immediately went to the trainers. Walked off under his own power but this is absolutely worth monitoring.”
In addition, Holder says that cornerback Kenny Moore II went down with knee injury. It’s not known if it was the same knee that he banged up on Sunday.
“Colts CB Kenny Moore II left practice Sunday with a knee injury that looked concerning,” Holder posted. “Details are still murky, but the early word is this is not a major injury. No info on timeline etc yet.”
Joint practice is going poorly for Indianapolis Colts otherwise
Noah Compton of Stamped Blue is on hand for the joint practice with the Packers, and the Colts probably wish he wasn’t. It sounds like they would prefer that no one gets updates about the status of this session.
“Anthony Richardson and the #Colts 2nd unit was about as bad as it could get in their 11-on-11 session from their own 20 yard line,” Compton writes. “Richardson was wildly off-target, the offensive line was inconsistent (numerous flags + low-snaps from Vavao), just bad all around.”
Yes, it’s training camp. Yes, it’s just practice. No, it’s not even a meaningless exhibition game. But, I don’t care what team you root for, that’s not a good update.
But, Compton wasn’t finished and quarterback Daniel Jones could not escape his keen eye.
“Daniel Jones’ last snap of the day is a brutal one,” Compton posts. “After he and the backup WRs connected on three straight passes to set them up near the opponent’s 35-yard line, a held ball turned into a would-be sack before being picked off after throwing it anyway. #Colts”
Other reporters had similar takes on the Colts
Just in case you were thinking that maybe one or two reporters had an ax to grind with Indy, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Mike Spofford is the editor for Packers.com and while he’ll obviously lean Green Bay, this wasn’t a good update for newly acquired cornerback Charvarius Ward.
“Golden almost impossible to cover 1 on 1 when he makes inside-out or outside-in move at the line,” Spofford posts. “He beat Colts top corner Charvarius Ward easily on his first rep. Any type of free release gives Golden all he needs.”
Hopefully for the Colts, first-round wide receiver Matthew Golden is just that good (doubt it though). It’s entirely possible that he does this to corners all year.
And, welcome to the Bluesky party! Joel A. Erickson from the Indy Star posted some wonderfully positive news on Bluesky for Colts fans who can’t be there to witness it live.
“If it can go wrong for the Colts offense in this joint practice, it is,” Erickson writes.
That should cover it.
