The Washington Commanders are desperate for a win heading into Week 9, but picking up a victory is going to be easier said than done, as they will be taking on the Seattle Seahawks. For pretty much the entire season, the Commanders have been beat up by injuries, and while they have gotten some players back for their upcoming game, they still are missing some key pieces.
One such piece is star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who reaggravated his quad injury in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs. With McLaurin out, Washington needs some extra help at this position, which led them to make an intriguing move involving former first-round wide receiver Treylon Burks, who was signed to the team’s practice squad last month.
Commanders Activate Treylon Burks to Active Roster
Burks was selected with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, with the team hoping he would be their replacement for A.J. Brown, who they had just traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Burks never ended up finding his way with the Titans, though, catching just 53 passes for 699 yards and one touchdown during his first three seasons in the league.
After initially getting placed on injured reserve back in July, which ended his season, Burks was released early in October, giving him the freedom to sign with another team and play with them this year. Washington quickly pounced, signing Burks to its practice squad, giving the team a high-upside depth option at wide receiver.
With McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and Noah Brown all dealing with injuries, the Commanders have been looking for help at wide receiver all year long. Getting Burks could be a golden ticket for Washington, as he’s still only 25 years old and has tons of potential. With McLaurin out, Burks will get his first shot to carve out a role for himself with his new team, as he was elevated to the active roster ahead of the team’s upcoming game.
“We have elevated WR Treylon Burks and DT Sheldon Day from the practice squad,” the team announced in a post on X.

While Burks is going to be active for the Commanders’ upcoming action, expectations must be tempered, as he’s still finding his way with his new squad. However, there’s an opportunity for him to immediately make an impact on offense, especially with one of the team’s big-play threats, McLaurin, being stuck on the sidelines for this one.
With a 3-5 record, things have not gone Washington’s way just one year after it found its way to the NFC Championship Game. Taking on a 5-2 Seahawks squad isn’t going to make things easier for them, and with a matchup against the Detroit Lions looming, this feels like a must-win game for the Commanders. With this game being scheduled for Sunday Night Football, kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
