Commanders Get Disastrous Injury News in Week 7 Loss to Cowboys

The Washington Commanders added injury to insult in a 44-22 loss their NFC East Division rival Dallas Cowboys in Week 7 — and it could come to define the rest of their season.

Superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels left the game with a hamstring injury as the Commanders, who entered the season as Super Bowl contenders, dropped to 3-4 with the loss and have seen their season defined by injuries to their best players.

“Praying that Jayden Daniels’ hamstring injury won’t keep him out for a prolonged period of time,” Commanders co-owner and NBA legend Magic Johnson wrote on his official X account. “My Commanders lost 44-22 to the Cowboys.”

Daniels has already missed 2 games this season with a knee sprain and is finding his sophomore campaign to be a pretty rocky road after winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game in 2024.

Now, it looks like it might be a stretch for the Commanders to even make it back to the playoffs.

‘Doomsday’ Online for Commanders Fans After Loss

Fans of the Commanders entered the year as one of the NFL’s legitimate Super Bowl contenders after a flurry of offseason trades to bring in Pro Bowl players like left offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Those trades, which depleted a good chunk of Commanders’ draft picks, may end up being all for naught if the Commanders keep losing.

Social media saw NFL fans — Commanders ones and others — writing the team’s obituary with 10 games left in the regular season.

Washington has a murderer’s row of games coming up at the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8, followed by home games against the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions.

That’s 3 consecutive teams who seem like they’ll be in the playoffs before heading to Madrid, Spain, to play the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 before a bye in Week 12.

“Jayden Daniels hurt,” Commanders fan Divine wrote on X. “Worst defense I’ve seen in years. Marshon Lattimore my CB1. Commanders Season is actually over. New low.”

There weren’t any updates on Daniels’ injury on Sunday night, unlike 2024 when his mom gave an update on his status after he injured his ribs in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers.

The Commanders were also without NFL All-Pro wide receiver Terry McLaurin for a third consecutive game with a quad injury/hip flexor.

“Hot take for some reason: i still think jayden daniels is an incredible facilitator of the quarterback position and he is the only reason why this organization was able to reach any sort of relevance last year and this year. Not the roster (minus Terry), not the coaches, just JD5,” PolyMarket Sports’ Tom Stakes wrote on his official X account.

First Head to Head Matchup for NFC East QBs

There is some irony in Daniels injuring his hamstring against the Cowboys in his first head to head matchup with Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott.

That’s because Prescott missed both of the Cowboys’ games against the Commanders last season with a hamstring injury that cost him the last 9 games of the season.
