Commanders’ Terry McLaurin Gets Tough Injury Update Ahead of Bears Game

It’s impressive that the Washington Commanders have played the type of football they have throughout the first few weeks of the season, considering the team’s current injury situation.

The Commanders have suffered injuries to multiple offensive stars, including Terry McLaurin, who is currently dealing with a quad injury. The hope is for McLaurin to be back in action against the Chicago Bears on Monday night, but it remains uncertain where things stand.

According to Josh Taylor of AtoZ Sports, head coach Dan Quinn stated that McLaurin didn’t practice on Wednesday, raising some concerns about his status for Monday night.

“Dan Quinn says WR Terry McLaurin will NOT be practicing today,” he wrote.

Will Terry McLaurin Play for the Commanders in Week 6?

Earlier in the week, Quinn said that he was optimistic about McLaurin and others returning for the Washington Commanders against the Chicago Bears. With the extra day off on Sunday, that could be the reason why they get their star wide receiver back on the field. If McLaurin is that close to playing, every day matters in this situation.

“Yeah, we’re optimistic,” Quinn said, per Taylor. “We’ll have more information as the week goes on to see where they’re at with him [McLaurin], Noah [Brown], Sam Cosmi, and a few other guys that are kind of trending in the right way. We’ll make sure we take all the right steps. Just like we do with all the guys. . .But with having an extra day, that never hurts going into it. But as we get a few more days from now, I think I’ll have a better sense of whether it’s able to be done and what it looks like and how they’re responding to it.”

Chicago have improved, so getting McLaurin back from this injury would be a massive addition, given he’s posted five straight seasons with 1,000-plus yards. While the Commanders added other wide receivers during the offseason, including Deebo Samuel, there isn’t much of a question about who the team’s top receiver is.

The Commanders Will Need to Be Patient

McLaurin has been through a lot with this organization, and in his defense, the Washington Commanders haven’t always done what’s right. However, the relationship seems to be in a great position as of now, and that’s a positive sign when things like this unfold.

The last thing the Commanders want is to bring McLaurin back early, as he’s the heart and soul of this team, according to the Commanders’ coach Kliff Kingsbury.

“He’s been the heart and soul of this organization for a long time,” the offensive coordinator said of McLaurin. “Anytime he’s around, it lifts, lifts guys up, and you can’t replace him, whether it’s as a player or a leader or a mentor for these young players.”

Ultimately, while this game against the Bears is important, and the Commanders could look back at the end of the year and say that losing any game without McLaurin might’ve been the reason why they missed out on the playoffs, if that’s how things unfold, it’s more important to keep him healthy for the long term. If he isn’t ready to go, they should keep him sidelined until things look better.
