The Philadelphia Eagles are entering the 2025 season looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions. One guy who played a big role in getting them over the hump last year was cornerback Cooper DeJean, whose pick-six of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes opened the floodgates for the Eagles, who went on to secure a 40-22 victory.
DeJean’s sudden emergence certainly helped Philly, but the guy conducting the train is obviously quarterback Jalen Hurts. In a short period of time, Hurts has established himself as one of the best players at his position in the league, and his superstar talent earned him a rave review from DeJean ahead of the new campaign.

With his pick-six in the Super Bowl, DeJean quickly became one of the hottest names in the NFL. In 16 games last season, DeJean racked up 51 tackles, 0.5 sacks, six pass deflections, and one fumble forced. With the starting nickelback role his now, DeJean seems set to take a big step forward as he enters his second NFL season.
While DeJean has enjoyed a fast track to stardom, that wasn’t necessarily something Hurts got to enjoy. After a rocky career with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Oklahoma Sooners, Hurts fell to the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Eagles gradually developed Hurts behind the scenes, and he became their starting quarterback in 2021.
It took a while for the results to show up, but Hurts led Philadelphia to Super Bowl LIV, and while they lost to the Chiefs in that contest, the team got its revenge in Super Bowl LIX. DeJean knows just how important Hurts is to the Eagles’ overall success, and made it clear he’s very glad to be playing on the same team as him when discussing the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
“He’s got a very calm demeanor, he’s got a great mindset and mentality from day to day,” DeJean said of Hurts in an interview with DJ Siddiqi of RG.org. “He’s always putting in the work to try and better himself and make sure he’s playing his best for our team. It’s really cool to see as a young guy in the way he leads our team, and that offense is awesome to see and awesome to learn from.”
“Being in my second year in the league, just learning from him, from a leadership standpoint, and how he goes about his business — he’s the same dude every day. He doesn’t change for anybody, and that’s who he is. It’s cool to see him. I’m glad he’s on our team.”

DeJean got a taste of winning in the NFL right off the bat, and it’s something he and the rest of his team are eager to experience again heading into the 2025 campaign. Repeating as a champion is never easy, but if there’s a team that can do it, it’s the Eagles, as they still have loads of talent at their disposal heading into the new season.
With Hurts leading the way, Philadelphia is the team to beat across the league until somebody knocks them off their perch. Given what they were able to accomplish during their dominant postseason run last year, that’s going to be easier said than done, meaning that whatever team finds itself lining up against the Eagles is going to be in for a tough day.
