The Dallas Cowboys revealed somewhat concerning injury news about star quarterback Dak Prescott given the signal-caller’s recent health issues. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer announced that Prescott is dealing with a new injury just days before the team takes on the Philadelphia Eagles.
So far, this injury does not appear to put Prescott in danger of missing any time. It is still worth monitoring Prescott’s progression moving forward given the quarterback’s recent injury history.
Prescott missed nine games during 2024 as the signal-caller was sidelined with a season-ending hamstring injury. Now, Prescott is dealing with a new hip injury.
“Dak Prescott is dealing with a minor hip issue, but ‘nothing major’, per Schotty — it happened in the Cowboys win over the Raiders,” DallasCowboys.com’s Patrik Walker detailed in a November 19, 2025, message on X. “The team will be cautious with him in practice on a short week ahead of the contest against the Eagles.”
Here’s what you need to know about Prescott’s latest injury.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Is Still Expected to Play vs. Eagles
Prescott may be limited during the upcoming Cowboys practices, but there is no sign the quarterback will be sidelined on gameday. It is worth noting that whatever Prescott is dealing with did not appear to impact the star amid his four-touchdown performance in the team’s win versus the Las Vegas Raiders.
“He’s going to be fine, but we’re going to be real smart with the tempo today,” Schottenheimer said of Prescott during a November 19, media session, per Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris.
Cowboys QB Joe Milton Is the Top Candidate to Replace Dak Prescott If the Injury Worsens
There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Prescott’s status. Yet, if the injury worsens, strong-armed quarterback Joe Milton would be the likely candidate to take the field if Prescott misses any time down the road.
Milton has already appeared in two games this season. Dallas acquired Milton in an offseason trade with the New England Patriots to have some added insurance behind Prescott with Cooper Rush signing with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Cowboys Have a 90% Chance to Miss the NFL Playoffs
For now, Prescott is focused on helping the Cowboys chip away at the team’s long odds to make the NFL playoffs. Following the team’s win over the Raiders, Dallas’ playoff odds jumped up a bit to 10%, per The Athletic’s projections. Put more bluntly, the Cowboys have a 90% chance to miss the postseason.
“We’ve got a hell of a road ahead of us,” Prescott noted following the Cowboys’ win over the Raiders, per The Athletic’s Michael Silver. “And I think that’s the best part of it — we ain’t got no [expletive] ahead, where we can lose focus. Like, hell no, we can’t lose focus — not for a second, not for a day, not for a moment of the training.
“[Expletive], we want to make the playoffs? We got to go beat some playoff teams. And it’s not ‘one game at a time.’ We don’t have that luxury. We’ve got to think of the whole thing. We have to go on a run. And we’re going to do it together.”
There is no rest for Prescott ahead with the vaunted Eagles defense coming to town. The Cowboys are a 3.5-point underdog versus the Eagles in the Week 12 matchup, per FanDuel.
