Cowboys Give Massive Injury Update for Defensive Star

Maybe, just maybe, all is not lost for the Dallas Cowboys and their much maligned defense.

The Cowboys kept their run going on positive news for their defense by taking injured inside linebacker DeMarvion Overshown off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

“The Cowboys have activated LB DeMarvion Overshown from the PUP list, ending his long road back,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on his official X account on Tuesday, November 11. “A potentially significant addition. They also activated rookie DB Shavon Revel from NFI.”

If Overshown can return and contribute this season, it would be a significant move for a team in desperate need of defensive help — the Cowboys are currently ranked 31st out of 32 NFL teams in total defense.

“Official: it’s time,” Cowboys.com’s Patrick Walker wrote on his official X account. “DeMarvion Overshown and Shavon Revel have both been activated from IR by the Cowboys. A long road back to the field for both, and Agent 0 has shown what he can be when healthy at the NFL level.”

Walker’s reference is to Overshown’s jersey number switch — he has previously been No. 13 and will be No. 0 whenever he returns to the lineup, which could be a Monday Night Football road game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 11.

“DeMarvion Overshown and rookie Shavon Revel have been activated from PUP to active roster with both expected to make their season debuts for the Cowboys on MNF vs. Raiders,” NFL reporter Ed Werder wrote on his official X account. “Both have recovered from knee surgery.”

Overshown’s Second Serious Injury in 2 Seasons

Overshown suffered his second season ending knee injury in his first 3 seasons in Week 14 of the 2024 season against the Cincinnati Bengals, tearing his ACL, PCL and MCL.

Overshown was in the middle of a breakout season and through 13 games had 90 tackles, 5.0 sacks, 8 TFL, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 4 pass deflections and one interception returned for a touchdown.

Overshown tore his ACL in the second preseason game of his rookie year in 2022 and there’s been no timetable given for his return, although he told The Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins he could rejoin the Cowboys in Week 13 for their Thanksgiving Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cowboys Bolstered Roster at NFL Trade Deadline

The Cowboys are 3-5-1 headed into Week 11 and coming off a bye in Week 10 — the same week in which they made splashy headlines at the NFL trade deadline.

Dallas made a significant move at inside linebacker, where Overshown could very well find himself playing alongside a new teammate in former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson, who came over via trade on November 4.

That same day, the Cowboys added 2-time NFL All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in a trade that saw them send a first round pick along with defensive tackle and former first round pick Mazi Smith to the New York Jets.

Overshown, despite his injuries, is still held in really high regard in NFL circle and was voted a Top 10 inside linebacker in the NFL in ESPN’s 2025 preseason position rankings.
