The Dallas Cowboys are back in action, and training camp is in full swing. Pretty soon, the preseason will be here, and then, the actual NFL season will start up again. It can’t come soon enough, and Dallas Cowboys followers are hoping for a great turnround this season.
The team, of course, is under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who is putting his stamp on this team. One of the biggest bright lights for the new season will be having quarterback Dak Prescott back and healthy again. Hopefully he and CeeDee Lamb will work wonders together and be a match made in football heaven.
While it’s still fairly early to look at NFL power rankings, it’s really not too premature. NFL analysts started sharing their power rankings as early as February, so August seems like a reasonable time to dig in. Now, Ralph Vacchiano at Fox Sports has released his 2025 NFL power rankings, and it’s fascinating to see where teams land and why.

In his feature, which was published on Monday, July 28, Vacchiano admits that these are early power rankings that that things could change a lot before the first NFL snap takes place. In the article, he states, “The summer could change a lot, especially when the preseason games (and the injuries) begin. But for now, here’s our preseason look at how the league is ranked from bottom to top after free agency and the draft, and now that every NFL team has officially opened camp.”
As for the Dallas Cowboys, he has them at No. 19 on the tally. So, it’s not the best spot, but he has some hopeful things to say about the franchise.
“It’s easy to blame the Cowboys’ bad 2024 season on losing quarterback Dak Prescott for half of last year,” he states in the feature. “But they were 3-5 before he got hurt, and their defense was pretty hideous in most of those games. Prescott will be back and adding receiver George Pickens to complement CeeDee Lamb will certainly help.”
He adds, “As usual, it would’ve been nice if they fixed their running back spot (unless you’re a believer in the Javonte Williams-Miles Sanders tandem). That defense is going to be a problem again, too. As usual, they didn’t do nearly enough in the offseason to improve.”
The NFL’s Top Team Going Into the New Season Is a No-Brainer
Now, let’s see which team Vacchiano picks as the best in the NFL heading into the 2025-26 season. “The defending champs deserve the No. 1 spot for now, but they only have a tenuous hold on it,” he notes in the piece. He adds that “as long as Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts are healthy, they are as good, deep and talented as any team in the league.”
So, the team to beat is the reigning champions: the Philadelphia Eagles. There’s no surprise with that pick.
All things considered, now is really an exciting time to be a Dallas Cowboys fan. Let’s hope the future is bright.
