Cowboys’ Jerry Jones Teases Multiple Trades, Says Defense Will Get Help ‘Immediately’

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is making moves ahead of the NFL trade deadline — and it sounds like he’s not finished yet. Speaking on “The Stephen A. Smith Show” on SiriusXM on Monday, November 3, Jones confirmed that the Cowboys have already completed one trade and are working on two more before Tuesday’s 3 p.m. ET deadline.

While Jones didn’t reveal specifics, he hinted the trade was on the defensive side of the ball — a clear signal that Dallas is focused on shoring up one of its biggest weaknesses heading into the second half of the season.

Jerry Jones Confirms a Trade Has Been Made Before the Deadline

Jones told Smith and Cowboys Hall of Famer Michael Irvin that Dallas had finalized a deal before its “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

“A lot of action going on right now in terms of trading,” Jones said, according to longtime Cowboys reporter, Clarence Hill Jr, via X. “We certainly have made a trade and we may make a couple more trades before that deadline. We’ve made one. We possibly could make two more, and I’m going to wait and let you read about that when we send the papers in tomorrow.”

Hill also reported Jones told him the trade would be “consummated” on Tuesday, November 4.

The Cowboys (3-4-1) entered Week 9 needing a defensive boost after ranking second-worst in defensive EPA per play this season. With their offense performing well under quarterback Dak Prescott, it’s clear that the team’s playoff hopes hinge on how quickly the defense can find its rhythm.

ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter has linked the Cowboys to several defensive names on the market, including Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, Miami Dolphins linebacker Bradley Chubb, and Tennessee Titans pass rusher Arden Key.

The Cowboys’ Owner Hints at Defensive Focus for Trade Moves

When pressed for details, Jones only offered a vague — but telling — hint about the direction of the trade.

“Immediately, it will have them on the field, and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings,” he said. “Now that’s a milk toast answer, it really is. We’ve been, having not to get into too much detail, it’s on defense.”

Jones explained that his focus is on finding disciplined defenders who can remain consistent under pressure. “You got assignments and you make your assignments and all of you are shaking your heads, you know what we’re talking about,” he said. “Now, if sometimes you want to go out and just make a big play and abandon your assignment, what does that do to everybody else?”

Irvin replied, “Harms way,” to which Jones added, “In harm’s way, and usually will create a negative thing for the Dallas Cowboys. We are trying to get a player and have players that are getting to where they can be in the right place. That sounds simplisticbut we’re in there, that’s why I think we can be better.”

The Cowboys’ interest in a defensive overhaul comes just months after trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in one of the offseason’s most surprising deals. Since then, Dallas has struggled to generate consistent pressure, which explains why Jones is targeting pass rushers and linebackers before the deadline.
