The Las Vegas Raiders need to do some soul-searching after another blowout loss, this time at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Head coach Pete Carroll thought he was going to be able to build a winner more quickly, but it’s obvious now that this team needs a top-down rebuild.
There were teams interested in trading for star pass rusher Maxx Crosby before the deadline, but the Raiders rebuffed any inquiries. The Cowboys were the team most heavily linked to the All-Pro, but they decided to trade for Quinnen Williams instead.
Though the Raiders got outclassed by the Cowboys, Crosby had another strong game, notching a sack, two quarterback hits and a tackle for loss. He was the only Raiders defender who was consistently making an impact.
One person who came away even more impressed with Crosby after the Cowboys game was owner Jerry Jones, who had some high praise for the pass rusher.
“That Crosby is a mess. There’s an outside guy that makes a difference,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.
If it’s true that Jones sought Crosby at the trade deadline, he likely wants him even more after seeing him play live.
Could Crosby Get Traded This Offseason?
If the Raiders decide to embrace a rebuild, their most valuable trade piece is Crosby. He’s still only 28 and continues to play at a high level.
He’s the face of the franchise and doesn’t want to get traded, but at some point, the Raiders are wasting his talent. If he got traded to a team like the Cowboys, he’d be able to play with two Pro Bowl defensive linemen in Williams and Kenny Clark. It’s easy to see his sack numbers go way up if he had some help.
The Raiders don’t want to trade Crosby, but if the decision is to embrace a rebuild, it might be the only move they can make to add a couple of first-round picks.
Crosby Had Blunt Message After Cowboys Loss
Crosby hasn’t been shy about his frustrations with the Raiders’ losing ways, but he’s still remained loyal to the team. Following the loss to the Cowboys, the defensive end once again expressed his disappointment with how the team is playing.
“We aren’t good enough right now. There’s a lot of issues, we gotta find ways to get better. Find solutions instead of just doing the same thing and expecting a different result,” Crosby told reporters after the game. “It’s football. We have 17 opportunities. You train all year-round to get 17 opportunities guaranteed. If anybody takes that for granted, that’s a shame on them. You show up every day, you gotta go out there and (expletive) produce and find solutions and look yourself in the mirror and get better. That’s all you can do. No one feels bad for us. You gotta win football games, and we’re not doing that right now. We’re not playing good football. … We’re making it really hard on ourselves when it doesn’t have to be that way.”
