Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown Sends Strong Message on Return to Practice

The Dallas Cowboys have had a topsy-turvy start to the 2025 campaign, with their record sitting at 3-3-1 through seven games. While the Cowboys’ offense has been one of the better units across the league, they have been held back by a defense that has struggled mightily on the other side of the ball.

The good news for Dallas is that reinforcements appear to be on their way on that side of the ball. On Wednesday, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown practiced for the first time this season as he continues to work his way back from torn ACL, MCL, and PCL injuries. And after taking the field for the first time in nearly a year, Overshown issued a bold message that will surely catch fans’ attention.

DeMarvion Overshown Speaks on Return to Practice for the Cowboys

The Cowboys selected Overshown in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he didn’t end up playing at all as a rookie after he suffered a torn ACL in the team’s second preseason game. Overshown began a lengthy rehab process, but he ended up getting himself ready for the 2024 campaign, and he turned in a strong first season, racking up 90 tackles, five sacks, one interception (which he returned for a touchdown), four pass deflections, and one fumble forced.

As noted above, though, Overshown’s season came to a premature end early in December when he suffered another serious injury. As a result, Overshown once again was forced to return to square one, as he had to endure another lengthy rehab process. However, he’s been making some serious progress as of late in his quest to return to the field.

Considering how this is already the second ACL injury of Overshown’s career, Dallas has been understandably cautious with the talented young linebacker. With a return to practice, though, it’s clear Overshown is closing in on a return to game action, and he revealed just how excited he was to be back on the field alongside his teammates on Wednesday.

“I’ve been watching for 300-plus days now,” Overshown said when speaking to reporters. “When you’re a guy like me, football is more than just a game to you, it’s a way of life, you play with a passion and that energy, and when you’re able to do it again, you never take it for granted.”

Overshown hasn’t been on the field in quite a bit of time, so it’s going to take some time for him to get himself back to full health. As a result, the expectation is that he won’t play in Week 8, as he later revealed that he is targeting a return to action when the Cowboys square off against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football in Week 11 after the team’s bye week in Week 10.

Getting Overshown back would be a huge boost for a defensive unit that has been overmatched so far this season. If the defense can make just a couple of slight improvements, though, the offense may be good enough to get this team over the hump. Dallas will look to earn its second straight win when it takes on the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
