Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin slammed his former team for their role in star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s early injury against the Chicago Bears in week three.
On the first drive of the game, the Cowboys offense called a play that saw Lamb line up in the backfield for a run. During the run, Lamb got his ankle twisted as he was getting tackled, and was ruled out for the remainder of the game after trying to run another play, where he was clearly in discomfort.
The play that Lamb injured himself was ultimately nullified after offsetting penalties from both teams.
Without their star receiver, the Cowboys looked lost offensively for the rest of the game as they fell to the Bears by a score of 31-14.
Irvin Blasts Cowboys Decision To Use Lamb In Running Game
Michael Irvin took to his YouTube channel on Monday morning to announce his displeasure with the Cowboys decision to use Lamb in the running game.
“I know the new way and the new day is to do everything; I don’t want to do all of that,” Irvin said. “Like that old Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial…we do one thing, and we do it right.”
“That’s what I used to say when I was playing: Don’t ask me to do special teams, I do one thing and I do it right. The reason I do one thing and I do it right is because all of these other things is how you get hurt. That’s what happened to CeeDee Lamb today. They decided early on to put Lamb in the backfield, hand him off the ball and let him run right. Somebody jumped right on him, twisted his ankle, and he left the game.”
Irvin went on to talk about a Dallas offense without Lamb in it.
“The Dallas Cowboys are not the Dallas Cowboys without 88,” Irvin said. “You have to have 88 on the field. I’m just not a fan of all of this. Let him play wide receiver. We’ve got running backs back there for that. You guys do know in this damn league, nobody gives running backs any credit because they know they don’t have a long lifespan.
Cowboys Now In Rocky Spot To Start Season
After a narrow defeat at the hands of the Eagles in week one, a shootout with the Giants in week two and now a blowout against the Bears in week three, Dallas finds itself sitting at 1-2, potentially without Lamb moving forward and with a defense that has had all kinds of trouble for three weeks now.
With the Eagles off to a 3-0 start and the Commanders at 2-1, the Cowboys already find themselves in a spot where winning the division looks highly unlikely. Their defense without Micah Parsons has been one of the worst in the league: they allowed 37 points to the Giants floundering offense and 31 to Chicago which hadn’t exactly shown itself to be a world beater through two weeks.
In Lamb’s absence, the only two offensive players to step up were Jake Ferguson, who caught 13 passes and George Pickens who picked up Dallas’ only touchdown on the day.
A world without CeeDee Lamb is one the Cowboys offense cannot afford, so hopefully for them, his injury is minor and could see him back next week.
