As Micah Parsons’ future continues to be debated, time will tell how the Dallas Cowboys will choose to handle the fragile situation. The early indications are the Cowboys do not intend on moving Parsons, but this is not stopping the ongoing trade rumors. Yet, one of the Cowboys’ rivals looms large as a potential threat to poach Parsons.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported that the Cowboys do not plan to deal Parsons despite his trade request.
“The Commanders to this point have shown zero desire to trade Terry McLaurin, same goes for the Cowboys with Micah Parsons,” Breer explained in an August 1, 2025, message on X. “And despite the trade requests, I’m told neither team has any plan to change course on that.
“But what the requests will likely do is prompt incoming calls.”
Despite the Cowboys’ current stance, the Philadelphia Eagles could be lurking as a potential threat for Parsons.
The Eagles & Patriots Are Co-Favorites to Trade for Micah Parsons
Fox Sports revealed the opening odds for Parsons’ next team. The Cowboys are technically the favorites for Parsons at -300.
Beyond staying in Dallas, the Eagles are tied as the favorites to trade for Parsons at +1000. The New England Patriots are the other co-favorite with the same +1000 odds.
Additionally, the Los Angeles Chargers (+1500), Arizona Cardinals (+1600) and San Francisco 49ers (+1600) are among the favorites in the odds for Parsons.
What Is Micah Parsons’ Trade Value for the Cowboys?
If the Cowboys did change their tune and explore trades for Parsons, what would Dallas land in return if the team dealt the pass rusher? ESPN’s Adam Schefter pointed to the Chicago Bears acquiring Khalil Mack in 2018 as a potential blueprint for Parsons’ trade value.
“A potential trade comp for Micah Parsons: When 27-year-old Khalil Mack was traded from Oakland to Chicago, the Bears gave up two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick for Mack, a second-round pick, and a conditional fifth-round pick,” Schefter detailed in a July 31, message on X.
“Now the 26-year-old Parsons — who is one of only two players in NFL history to register a dozen-plus sacks in each of his first four NFL seasons, along with Reggie White — has now requested a trade.”
The Cowboys Still Retain Control of Micah Parsons’ Future as Star Risks Losing Significant Money With Holdout
It is worth noting that just because Parsons requested a trade, it does not mean that Dallas will accommodate the star. Parsons is technically under contract for 2025 and is slated to have a $24 million salary if no new deal is reached.
Dallas could use the franchise tag to retain Parsons in 2026 and 2027 as well if a contract extension is not signed. Parsons is clearly trying to pressure the Cowboys, but it will be worth watching to see if the pass rusher is willing to miss lucrative game checks by sitting out during the season if the star is not dealt.
Micah Parsons Wants to Play for Eagles, Says A.J. Brown
Parsons’ connection to Pennsylvania runs deep as a native of Harrisburg. The defender was also a standout college football player at Penn State.
Count Eagles star receiver A.J. Brown among those who can envision Parsons in an Eagles uniform. Back in February, Brown noted that Parsons wants to play for the Eagles.
The only thing worse for Cowboys fans than trading Parsons would be watching the star play against Dallas at least two times per season as a member of the Eagles.
