If you were building a safety in a lab for the Dallas Cowboys, he’d probably look a lot like Jaquan Brisker.
A second-round pick for the Chicago Bears in 2022, Brisker has four years of experience as a starter, and when he’s healthy, he’s a formidable presence in the middle of the field. In 48 games, he’s racked up over 300 tackles, and has been solid both as a blitzer (7.0 career sacks) and in coverage (four interceptions, 18 passes defended).
At 6-foot-1 and over 200 pounds, he’s big enough to take on tight ends and sturdy enough to hold up as a force player on the boundary. There’s also a real chance he’ll be available next offseason. Brisker’s rookie contract runs through 2025, after which he’s set to hit unrestricted free agency in 2026.
Would he be a good fit for the the Cowboys? K.D. Drummond of USA Today’s Cowboys Wire certainly thinks so.
Cowboys Wire Predicts Safety Jaquan Brisker Will Sign 3-Year Deal With Dallas in Free Agency

GettyBears safety Jaquan Brisker will hit free agency in 2026. Should the Dallas Cowboys sign him?
In recent years, the Cowboys have cycled through several different safeties, including Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Markquese Bell and Juanyeh Thomas, with young players like Alijah Clark also getting chances. At their best, that group has been efficient and cheap.
In an admittedly early prediction, Drummond thinks the Cowboys should ink Brisker to a three-year deal worth $33 million. In order to protect themselves due to Brisker’s injury history — more on that in a bit — Drummond’s projection includes a $13 million signing bonus, two void years and $1 million base salary. If that’s what it would cost to nab him, Dallas should do it.
Brisker would be a good option in free agency next year, largely because he won’t break the bank, and because Chicago has used him in the exact kind of ways Dallas likes to weaponize its safeties: He can creep toward the line of scrimmage late to mess with the run game, take away hot throws in the flat and still make plays downfield.
His injury history is a definite concern, though, and it’ll likely affect his next contract.
Now in Year 4, he has remained healthy, but Brisker has suffered three diagnosed concussions in his first three NFL seasons. His first came in 2022, sidelining him briefly after being evaluated twice during a game before entering protocol. He suffered another concussion in 2023, missing two games. In 2024, he sustained a third concussion in Week 5 and missed the final 12 games.
The Eberflus Connection Shouldn’t Matter Either Way
Brisker was drafted during current Cowboys DC Matt Eberflus’ first year as head coach in Chicago, and he became an immediate starter. Brisker spent three years in Flus’ defense, so he’s beyond familiar with it.
That said, Eberflus hasn’t been up to snuff for much of the 2025 season, and he could see his tenure as defensive coordinator end when the year concludes. Regardless of Flus’ future in Dallas, Brisker is a player who should be on the team’s radar.
Considering Dallas’ projected needs at DB coupled with what Brisker has to offer, the Cowboys could do a lot worse.
