Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Issues Statement on Jalen Carter Spitting on Him

The Dallas Cowboys have already started on their journey in the 2025-26 season. Even though they fell against the Philadelphia Eagles in their season opener on Thursday, September 4, the Cowboys looked very good on the field, and it appears that their new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, is already implementing some good strategies with the team.

The Cowboys also have their franchise quarterback Dak Prescott back and healthy, and he put on a good show on Thursday. The Eagles squeaked by with a win at 24-20, but it was by no means a blowout and could have gone either way.

Following the game, the Cowboys weren’t happy with their loss, but it was a different feeling than when the team lost last season. There’s hope, and seeing this team get so close to beating the reigning champions was exciting. But, before the game, all the fun was overshadowed by Eagles player Jalen Carter spitting on Prescott. Now, Prescott is opening up about that experience and if he spit first.

Dak Prescott Discusses Spitting Incident with Jalen Carter at Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagle Game

After the game, Prescott spoke to the media, and, of course, he was asked about Carter spitting on him and getting ejected from the season opener. While Prescott said that he has spit “a thousand times” in general and that it’s something he’s “not proud of,” he would absolutely never spit on another player.

“I wouldn’t spit on somebody,” Prescott said regarding the incident. “I stepped through [and] I actually said words like, ‘…excuse me, but probably even more colorful — what would I need to spit on you for?’ And he just spit on me in that moment. It was more of a surprise than anything.”

So, Prescott was floored by the moment. The officials weren’t too happy about it and made that known when they ejected Carter. Now, this moment even has a name in Spitgate, and it’s taking social media by storm.

Aside from the spitting incident, it was fun to watch Prescott and Lamb do their thing on the field, and it’s hopefully a good sign of things to come. “Dak and CeeDee Lamb continue to deal,” noted Tom Downey in a post on X during the game.

Keeping Dak Prescott Healthy for the Dallas Cowboys

Seeing Prescott health and back on the field is a relief, and let’s hope it stays that way. In a piece published on Saturday, August 16, following the team’s loss to Baltimore in the preseason, Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk and NBC Sports sums up the Cowboys’ biggest problem.

He explains that the Cowboys have a “backup quarterback problem.” He adds, “It’s obvious the Cowboys have a backup quarterback problem.”

Following that preseason game, Schottenheimer insisted that he’s not worried. “I wouldn’t say I’m concerned,” he said following the game in a conference. “We didn’t get into rhythm offensively. What we did in the first half against the Rams, I think we came out a little bit of a different mindset in terms of trying to run the ball. They got him.”

It’s a good thing that Prescott looked and player as healthy as ever on Thursday. Let’s hope the next game doesn’t involve spitting.
