The Dallas Cowboys (7-9-1) struggled to produce consistent winning football this season, but quarterback play was not the issue.
Dak Prescott set a franchise record for single-season passing yards, finishing with 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Dallas closed the year with a loss to division rival New York Giants (4-13), as the Cowboysâ defense surrendered more than 30 points once again â a recurring theme throughout the season. The unit became the first Cowboys defense to finish a season allowing an average of more than 30 points per game. In contrast, the offense led by Prescott ranked among the leagueâs best in most major statistical categories.

Dak Prescott Calls Out Dallas Defense
Following Sundayâs 34-17 defeat, Prescott addressed the imbalance between the two sides of the ball in his postgame comments.
âOne of the best offenses in the league. Explosive,â Prescott said. âNot always to our standard. Didnât play like that every week, but put up a lot of points and didnât win the games that we should have.
“Weâve got one of the best offenses in the league and unfortunately one of the not so good defenses in the league, or however you want to say it. We have to stop giving up 30 points a game and Iâm sure that will be the focus this offseason.â
Dak Prescott Ready to Start His Offseason in a Week
Prescott also said he takes responsibility for his own performance, but noted it was reassuring that his 10th NFL season produced an elite offense featuring stars such as CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
He expressed confidence the unit will continue to improve heading into Year 2 under head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Prescott said he wants âto be better next year than I was this year. And over my career, the track record sorta proves that.â
âFor me, itâs about continuing to work,â he added. âI donât know if there is anyone that works as hard as me. I pride myself on that and I look forward to getting back to that in about a week.â
Dak Prescott Appreciates Teammates Effort
Despite the offensive success, the Cowboys finished with back-to-back losing seasons, a result Prescott acknowledged has been difficult for the team.
âTough season,â Prescott said. âFrustrating in a sense. One of the first seasons in my career where I canât correlate my play to the wins and losses ⦠or overall success of the season.â
âIt sucks, but itâs the reality. A lot of good in this season but unfortunately itâs not the end goal, itâs no where we wanted to be.â
âI appreciate every one giving their all and leaving it out there.â
The Cowboys hold the No. 12 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft in April.
