Cowboys QB Dak Prescott’s Issue With Micah Parsons Revealed in New Report

The Micah Parsons saga in Dallas came to an epic conclusion this week after he was traded to the Green Bay Packers for Kenny Clark and the Packers next two first round picks. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, unlike other contract negotiations in Dallas in recent years, Parsons’ antics seemed to weigh on the Cowboys’ locker room, all the way up to their star quarterback Dak Prescott.

“That said, there is a difference between this negotiation and the previous three,” Breer wrote for Sports Illustrated. “Martin, Lamb and Prescott are/were very popular in the locker room. That’s not the case with Parsons, who has rankled teammates in different ways, seen by some as egotistical and self-centered. His podcast has created issues, too, that go all the way up to quarterback Dak Prescott.”

According to Breer’s report, the level-headed Prescott had become tired of Parsons’ podcast: “The Edge with Micah Parsons.” Prescott, who usually holds his personal emotions close to his chest, was one of many on the Dallas roster who viewed the podcast as “egotistical” and “self-centered,” which were views on par with how Parsons reportedly acted in the locker room.

Dallas attempted to negotiate an extension with Parsons over the offseason, but Parsons and his camp were unwilling to play ball with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, citing the length of the contract as an issue.

Parsons, a four-time pro bowler, signed a four year $186 million extension with the Packers after the trade.

Parsons Loss Will Be Detrimental to Cowboys Defense

For whatever you wanted to say about the Cowboys defense over the last few seasons, there was no denying that Micah Parsons significantly elevated their effectiveness, especially in the run game. Now, without the perennial pro-bowler, what has been a below league average defense in recent years could be even worse this year, potentially bottom three in the league bad.

Get ready to bet the over on Cowboys games this year, because with a now healthy Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens flanking the outside, Dallas is going to find itself in plenty of shootouts this year.

There’s only so much Prescott and the offense can do however, if the Cowboys defense goes from bad to worse without Parsons.

Are the Packers Legitimate Contenders?

Before the Parsons trade, Green Bay was in a lot of conversations as one of the favorite sleeper picks to emerge from a difficult NFC North. Now, what was already a solid defensive unit has been elevated to arguably a top-10 unit in the league, otherwise known as the Micah Parsons effect.

Green Bay has a great young quarterback in Jordan Love with young depth all around at the wide receiver position. If the Packers defense really is that much better with Parsons in the mix, then all you really need is average offensive efficiency from Love and company. They could win a lot of 20-17 games this season.

Of course, the NFC North is a gauntlet itself, featuring the high-flying Detroit Lions, a front-running Minnesota Vikings team and an underrated, young team out in Chicago.

There’s no reason why the Packers shouldn’t be right up in the Lions territory this season.
