Cowboys Should Pounce & Sign Recently-Released Eagles Playmaker

The Dallas Cowboys running backs room took a hit when Miles Sanders was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Javonte Williams has emerged as the team’s RB1 and has been one of the league’s most productive backs. The former Denver Broncos second-rounder has 92 carries for 476 yards and five touchdowns so far this season. After Week 6, he’s fourth in the NFL in rushing yards, and tied for third in touchdowns while averaging an impressive 5.2 yards per carry.

Behind him, rookie Jaydon Blue is a change-of-pace option, and Hunter Luepke is…there too. The Cowboys also have Malik Davis on the practice squad, but there’s no question Dallas could use another RB on the roster behind Williams.

We think there could be a sneaky option for the Cowboys who was just released from the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad: Audric Estimé.

Why the Dallas Cowboys Should Sign Recently-Released Philadelphia Eagles RB Audric Estimé

Audric Estime

GettyFormer Broncos running back Audric Estime just got cut from the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. The Dallas Cowboys could sign him for cheap and very little risk.

At 5-foot-11 and 227 pounds, Estimé is a big back who has no business being as agile as he is. A fifth-round pick in 2024 (No. 147 overall) by the Broncos, he saw some early action as a rookie before getting released during final roster cuts.

As a rookie with the Broncos in 2024, he finished with 76 carries for 310 yards (4.1 per carry) and two touchdowns, also adding five receptions. He spent the first six weeks of the 2025 season on Philadelphia’s practice squad before getting released on October 14.

During his breakout 2023 campaign at Notre Dame, he exploded for 1,341 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging an impressive 6.4 yards per carry. He finished third in the nation in TDs that year.

He finished his college career with 2,321 yards and 29 touchdowns. Here’s what NFL.com’s draft expert Lance Zierlein wrote about him heading into the 2023 draft:

He’s naturally powerful with adequate foot agility. Estimé doesn’t have the bend to be a one-cut runner but can make reactive cuts to sudden tacklers near the line of scrimmage. If he can hit the gas with a heavier foot, he’ll continue to break tackles and maximize yardage after contact. He’s a better weapon out of the backfield than he might get credit for being, and he could check into the league as part of a two-headed running attack with the ability to shine near the goal line.

More on Estimé’s Fit in Dallas

Estimé is also a solid blocker, and his physicality would be a definite asset to the Cowboys offense. He has showed an ability to pick blitzes well and he’s a bruiser who can finish runs through contact.

It’s also worth noting that the Cowboys wouldn’t be taking much of a gamble by signing him. He’s a free agent now, and he shouldn’t cost more than the league minimum. If Estimé doesn’t pan out, he’d be a low-cost risk. If he does, they’ve potentially landed a long-term contributor at a premium position for very little money.

The Cowboys don’t need to make a huge move at RB, but they need someone who can help give Williams some relief. It also wouldn’t hurt if Dallas added another potential playmaker to the mix, and the newly-available Estimé could qualify there, as well.
