The thing about NFL social media types — the ones who run the official accounts for all 32 teams — is they really like to try and push the envelope.
Want clicks? Want views? Take potshots at other teams. Especially after you win.
Sometimes, they take it too far. Like what the Los Angeles Chargers did with a social media post which implied Dallas Cowboys center Cooper Beebe said something racist in their Week 16 game.
In the since-deleted post, the Chargers bleeped out part of Beebe’s audio to imply he directed a racial slur at linebacker Daiyan Henley along with writing “lol instant karma” with the video following the 34-17 win by the Chargers.
Beebe took to his X account to call out the Chargers, who took the post down. Beebe said he was simply calling out the protection calls against the Chargers defensive front.
“Literally said ‘Hole R’? That’s our call vs. Abby front. Imagine bleeping out what I said to make me seem racist. You guys are POS @Chargers,” Beebe wrote on his X account attached to the original post by the Chargers.
“The Los Angeles Chargers shared a mic’d-up video trying to paint Dallas Cowboys center Cooper Beebe as a racist…” Olympic gold medal volleyball player Jon Root wrote on X. “The Chargers need to apologize & the social media team needs to be reprimanded. This is defamation.”
Beebe Already One of NFL’s Best Centers
Beebe, 6-foot-4 and 335 pounds, was a plug and play starter after he was selected in the third round (No. 73 overall) in the 2024 NFL draft after dominating at Kansas State, where he was a 2-time All-American, 2-time Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year and 3-time All-Big 12 pick.
Beebe started 16 games as a rookie in 2024 and has started all 9 games he’s played in 2025 after missing 6 games with foot/ankle injuries.
Beebe has a 69.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, putting him 17th among 40 eligible NFL centers.
“Over the past several years, the Dallas Cowboys have seen multiple starters at center, a once-stable position when Travis Frederick lined up in that spot,” Bleacher Report’s Moton wrote on July 5. “Following a few years with Joe Looney and Tyler Biadasz, Cooper Beebe has shown signs he can be the long-term starter in the middle of the offensive line.”
Social Media Jumps to Defend Beebe
Plenty of people leapt to defend Beebe after what the Chargers posted — including many who pointed out the franchise may have opened itself up to legal action by Beebe.
“Nasty: The Chargers posted a Mic’d-Up video trying to paint Cowboys center Cooper Beebe as a racist,” NFL influencer Dov Kleiman wrote on X. “The Chargers should release an official apology and the social media admin needs to be fired. This is clear defamation.”
“I want to be very clear. Cooper Beebe is far from a racist,” Law Nation Sports wrote on X. “I support him and I’ve got his back 1000 percent. The entire Beebe family is solid, authentic, and full of character. Anyone who actually knows Cooper or has been around him understands the kind of person he is on and off the field. As a Cowboys fan and someone who values integrity, I stand with Cooper Beebe. He is an incredible individual in both his professional and personal life, and I won’t let false narratives or clipped audio change that reality. Respect matters. Context matters. Truth matters.”
