The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2025-26 NFL season with lofty expectations. After a somewhat down season for the Cowboys a year ago, mainly due to Dak Prescott’s injury, Dallas has some questions to answer. They finished 7-10, something the Cowboys weren’t hoping for. For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, the Cowboys simply have to be better, and there’s no question about that.Â
Where Else Can the Cowboys Improve?
For the Dallas Cowboys to be the team they aspire to be, it may require them to make a trade. Some have suggested that the offense still isn’t where it needs to be, which isn’t ideal.Â
The Cowboys have done what they’ve needed to do during the bulk of the offseason, trading for George Pickens, getting Prescott healthy, and making some other moves. However, others believe that the Cowboys still need to add to their offense, which is why FanSided recently proposed an idea for them to trade for Darnell Washington of the Pittsburgh Steelers.Â
âWashington took a a 30 visit to The Star before the 2023 draft. The Cowboys have a long history of drafting players they invite for in-house evaluations. However, he wasn’t in consideration when Dallas took Luke Schoonmaker in round two at No. 58 overall because of a medical issue. That is why Washington fell all the way to the third round.Â
âHe was a projected second round pick going in but dropped to the Steelers at No. 93 overall. It was a foot and knee injury that purportedly tanked Washington’s draft stock, but he has yet to miss a game in his young career,â they wrote.
Trading for Washington would be a step in the right direction, but itâd also show that the Cowboys don’t trust Jake Ferguson much. However, after the Cowboys saw the Steelers trade for Jonnu Smith, it’s possible that they could target someone like Washington to pair with Ferguson.
Regarding Ferguson, it’s tough to put too much blame on his down season a year ago. He finished with zero touchdowns, the first time in his career.Â
Could Ferguson Bounce-Back in 2025?
In 2023 for the Dallas Cowboys, Ferguson was one of the better tight ends in the league, posting 761 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 10.7 yards per catch, adding to his impressive year.Â
Unfortunately, however, when Prescott went down, he didn’t do much.
But some believe that won’t be the case this time around, suggesting that Ferguson could be a bounce-back candidate. It’s possible that he could be, but it also wouldn’t be the worst idea to add a Washington, too, who is coming off a year where he had 19 receptions for 200 yards.
â(Ferguson) all but vanished last year â less than 500 receiving yards and (zero) touchdowns in an injury-marred third NFL season,â Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report wrote.â ⦠Thereâs no question CeeDee Lamb is top dog in the Dallas passing attack â he was sixth in the NFL in targets last year after leading the league in 2023.Â
âDallas also traded for wideout George Pickens in the offseason. But Ferguson topped 100 targets two years back, and itâs not that difficult to imagine him doing so again. Given all the questions at running back, the Cowboys could easily be among the NFLâs most pass-heavy teams in 2025.â
