Cristiano Ronaldo has been urged to join a Premier League club after appearing to confirm his departure from Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo has spent two-and-a-half years at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, scoring 99 goals in 111 appearances.

Despite his goalscoring exploits, the 40-year-old has grown increasingly frustrated at Al-Nassr, who finished third in the Saudi top-flight and failed to qualify for the Asian Champions League.

Ronaldo gave the biggest hint yet that he was leaving Al-Nassr in a social media post on Instagram on Monday evening.

‘This chapter is over,’ the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said. ‘The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.’

Ronaldo’s cryptic update comes after the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend reportedly received a ‘tempting’ offer from another club.

The proposal, which was described as ‘important’ and ‘major’, came from an unnamed Brazilian club, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

The club was not specified but Marca said the transfer would give Ronaldo the opportunity to play in this summer’s Club World Cup.

The four Brazilian clubs involved in the Club World Cup are Palmeiras, Fluminense, Flamengo and Botafogo. The tournament will be held between June 14 and July 13 in the United States.

Amid speculation Ronaldo could be on the move, former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke, who left Old Trafford a year before Ronaldo’s arrival, has recommended a move to Chelsea.

Chelsea will also be competing in the upcoming Club World Cup and secured a return to the Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca’s side, who are expected to sign a new striker this summer, face Real Betis in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night.

‘Yeah, why would you not? He can still do it,’ Yorke told gamblingindustrynews.

‘With his ambition and ability, if Chelsea are playing the way that they can and creating for him, he’s still an incredible forward. I see no reason not to.

‘He’s better than what Chelsea have currently got up front there. I can tell you that they’re not the greatest team in that number nine position. So I could see why he’s linked to that move.

‘I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t take a punt on it but it’s just a no-brainer.’

Earlier this week, Fifa president Gianni Infantino claimed ‘there are discussions’ over Ronaldo playing at the Club World Cup.

‘Ronaldo might play for one of the teams at the Club World Cup,’ he said during an interview with YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed.

‘There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup… who knows, who knows.’

In the two decades before his move to Saudi, Ronaldo – the record Champions League goalscorer – established himself as one of the greatest footballers in history.

A dynamic and skilful winger during his first spell at Manchester United, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or at Old Trafford.

Nine staggering seasons at Real Madrid followed in which Ronaldo scored a remarkable 450 goals in 438 games and lifted a further four Champions League trophies.

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, scored more than 100 goals for his next club, Juventus, while helping the Italian giants win three Serie A titles.
