The Dallas Mavericks thought they had a chance to send the game to overtime against the Knicks. Brandon Williams made a layup with under a second left in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Unfortunately, that basket was waved off, and he was called for an offensive foul.
That call was instantly scrutinized by the broadcast. Both Richard Jefferson and Tim Legler believed Landry Shamet instigated the contact, meaning it should have been an offensive foul.
Mavs coach Jason Kidd didn’t have any timeouts left, so he couldn’t challenge the call. Therefore, the Knicks ended up winning the game by two points. Kidd was asked about the call after the game, and he didn’t seem too happy with it.

Dallas Mavericks’ Jason Kidd Not Pleased With Late Foul Call
Following the game, Kidd gave his perspective on the play.
“Great execution, great catch, great pass by D-Live. For PJ to be able to pass it to D-Live and then for him to catch it and for him to find B-Will on the run was great execution. Um..tough call. Had a good look, called a foul.”
Kidd was clearly angry with the call that was made at the end of the game, but he did not want to get fined. Kidd wasn’t the only Mavericks representative mad with the call. Naji Marshall also gave his thoughts on the foul call after the game.
“It was a hard layup. They called what they called. It is what it is.”

The Mavericks Continue to Slide Without Anthony Davis
Dallas continues to slide without having Anthony Davis available to steady the offense and reject shots in the paint. The Mavericks are 13th in the Western Conference standings. Since Davis has played in just five games this season, they have the worst offensive rating in the NBA.
The Mavericks did not have Cooper Flagg available for the Knicks game, either. Kyrie Irving remains a few months away from returning to the court, as well. At this point, the Mavericks are closer to getting a top-five pick than they are to making the playoffs, which might change their strategy.
