Dan Quinn Sends Blunt Message on Commanders Season After Jayden Daniels Shut Down

The Washington Commanders managed to pick up a 29-21 victory over the New York Giants in Week 15, but that doesn’t change the fact that this has been a wildly disappointing season for the team. With just a 4-10 record, the Commanders are going to miss the playoffs entirely, just one year after advancing all the way to the NFC Championship Game, and it’s clear head coach Dan Quinn is not happy with that outcome.

Quinn and company have faced a lot of adversity this season, but that’s no excuse for turning in the sort of season the team has endured. With star second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels being shut down for the final three games of the campaign due to injury concerns, Quinn kept it real when discussing Washington’s shortcomings in 2025.

Dan Quinn Gets Brutally Honest on Commanders’ 2025 Season

In 2024, the Commanders were the breakout team in the NFL. With Quinn taking over on the sidelines, and Daniels being tabbed the team’s starting quarterback right from the jump, Washington stunned everyone and immediately became a playoff contender, advancing all the way to the NFC Championship Game before getting bounced by the Philadelphia Eagles, who would eventually go on to win Super Bowl LIX.

This season, the Commanders entered the year with Super Bowl expectations. Quinn and Daniels had a full year working with each other, and Washington spent the offseason revamping its roster, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. And despite all that, things never came together for Washington in 2025.

Injuries certainly haven’t helped, but even when everyone has been on the field, the Commanders have not managed to meet the mark. Quinn admitted that this season’s failure is a team-wide issue, and while he’s intent on finishing out the season on a high note, it sounds like he’s looking forward to taking a deeper dive into where things went wrong and figuring out what can be done to fix the team’s issues.

“As an overall assessment, we’ve all missed the mark,” Quinn said when speaking to reporters. “We’re gonna go through a full process. This is what we’re gonna do, this is how we’re gonna fix it, this is where we’re gonna go at coaching.”

There’s no such thing as a guarantee in the NFL, and the Commanders found that out the hard way in 2025. The rug can get pulled out from any team at any time (just look at the Kansas City Chiefs, for example) if you aren’t careful. That’s not to say Washington wasn’t properly prepared for the season, but it’s pretty obvious that things have not gone according to plan for them.

Before the team can turn its attention to 2026, it has to finish out the 2025 campaign. The Commanders did well to take down the Giants in Week 15, but they have a much more difficult contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on their hands in Week 16. Kickoff for this contest is set for 5 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
