Dan Quinn Shares Major Update on QB Jayden Daniels Before Chargers Game

The Washington Commanders have split the first four games of the 2025 NFL season, with the up-and-coming squad getting the best of the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders while also falling to the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons.

During two of those games, the Commanders had to take the field without star quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has been nursing a knee injury. Veteran journeyman Marcus Mariota has been shouldering the load in the meantime, but that appears to be coming to an end heading into Week 5.

Crucial Injury Update on Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn let it be known during a team press conference on Wednesday that Daniels has been medically cleared and will be on the practice field.

“I also said I would give you an update on Jayden,” Quinn said. “He has been medically cleared by the doctors. He’ll practice full today.

“As far as other injuries and practice updates, we’ll put out the injury report later today.”

Obviously, this is a great sign for the Commanders heading into Week 5’s matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers on the road at SoFi Stadium. Although Mariota has held his own filling in for the new face of the franchise, Daniels definitely gives the team a better chance to win.

Quinn went into a bit more detail about what Daniels has done to get ready to be back on the field.

“Just a steadfast approach to it,” Quinn said of Daniels working his way back from injury. “To put the work in to say, ‘I got to do all the things to get better and then once you get over the top of that, the throwing and the movements to go, so that’s what we saw in terms of the work to get better.”

Commanders WR Terry McLaurin Injury Update

Terry McLaurin #17 of the Washington Commanders warms up before the game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Along with Daniels battling a knee issue over the past few weeks, the Commanders’ offense has been without star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has been dealing with a quadriceps injury.

Quinn said he’ll have an update on McLaurin’s status after Wednesday’s practice, along with updates on tight end John Bates and wide receiver Noah Brown.

“All are trending up,” Quinn said. “And that’s what I was referring to. I’ll give you some updates tonight. We’re making good progress with those guys.”

Although McLaurin’s status for Sunday’s game against the Chargers remains uncertain, the team is taking steps in the right direction with Daniels being cleared.

As of Wednesday, the Commanders are underdogs heading into this matchup against Justin Herbert and company. Los Angeles is favored (-2.5), which could change if Daniels and McLaurin are given the green light for this Week 5 showdown between two very talented teams.

This game against the Chargers will be a true test for Quinn’s squad, as John Harbaugh’s team is arguably in the conversation for being one of the best teams in the AFC this season.
