On Tuesday afternoon, UFC CEO Dana White went live on Instagram with some breaking news regarding UFC 320.
According to White, the highly anticipated rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira has officially been booked as the headliner for the Oct. 4 card.
In addition, White announced that in the co-main event, Merab Dvalishvili will look to defend his bantamweight title for the third time as he faces off against Cory Sandhagen.
Last, but certainly not least, White revealed that a light heavyweight showdown between former champion Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr. would also take place on the card, with the winner likely next up for a crack at the title.
The event, which will take place at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, will mark the first of two pay-per-view cards set for the month of October after the Noche UFC card in September was downgraded to a fight night card.
Magomed Ankalaev Reacts to UFC 320 Fight Announcement
Following Dana White’s announcement on Instagram Live, Magomed Ankalaev was quick to react via social media.
While talk of a rematch between the two immediately surfaced following Ankalaev’s win back in March, since then, there had been some back-and-forth between the two sides regarding the timeline.
With the rematch now official, Ankalaev wasted no time before dropping a prediction for the rematch:
“Dana White announced my next fight on October 4th, I’m knocking Alex out this time. There is no other way, get ready for the big show.”
Pereira, on the other hand, has yet to react, however, given the latest news, rumors of the former champ potentially making the jump up to heavyweight seem dead in the water.
Cory Sandhagen Reacts to UFC 320 Fight Announcement
In response to Dana White’s big announcement on Tuesday, Cory Sandhagen was quick to react via Instagram as well.
Just moments after White broke the news of Sandhagen’s upcoming title fight against Merab Dvalishvili, The Sandman shared an image of the two via Instagram, writing:
“Sandman’s time, bud ”
On the flip side, Merab Dvalishvili has yet to react, however, he’s shared several posts promoting the co-main event clash with Sandhagen from various outlets.
While the bout was formally announced on Tuesday, following Dvalishvili’s win over Sean O’Malley in June it became clear that it was only a matter of time before the Dvalishvili-Sandhagen fight was made official.
Now, Sandhagen will have a chance to back up his predictions and prove that he is in fact the worst stylistic matchup for The Machine at 135.
