Dana White Shuts Down Rumor of Conor McGregor Being Released

On Thursday, rumors began circulating suggesting that the UFC had released Conor McGregor.

Despite McGregor being listed as active on UFC.com, the UFC Roster Watch tweet and accompanying email quickly spread like wildfire across the MMA community.

Hours later, Dana White jumped in, shooting down the rumors of the UFC releasing the former champ champ via Instagram.

In his words, the rumors are, quote:

“Total BULLS***”

The original post suggesting McGregor was released has since been deleted.

What made the news of the UFC releasing McGregor so strange, in addition to the fact that he still has two more fights left on his contract, was that the Irish star recently logged his first official test on the UFC’s anti-doping site after declaring his plans to return.

Although many fight fans remain skeptical of an actual return, McGregor remains steadfast in his plans to fight on the 2026 UFC card at the White House.

Dana White Shares Update on Potential Conor McGregor Fight at the White House

While Conor McGregor is officially back in the UFC’s testing pool, the 2026 White House card will take place just shy of five years to the date of his ill-fated injury at UFC 264.

Although at one point it appeared as though he would fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 despite skepticism stemming from an abruptly cancelled pre-fight press conference, he ultimately withdrew from the bout due to a broken toe.

Since then, the former champ champ has continued to tease fans with talk of a return, however, many aren’t biting.

According to Dana White, who spoke on Pardon My Take this week, McGregor is adamant about fighting at the White House:

“I mean if you see, he’s been posting videos of himself training, he’s back in the pool now, he wants the White House fight. If he starts getting in shape and training, and stays the course, that’s the fight he wants. He keeps telling me he wants that fight so, we’ll see how it plays out over the next several months.”

Michael Chandler Skeptical McGregor Fight Happens at White House

Even though Conor McGregor is back in the UFC’s anti-doping testing pool, and the former champ champ is training, Michael Chandler still isn’t buying talk of a fight at the White House.

Along with fight fans, Chandler expressed skepticism about the potential fight during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show this week, where he explained that although he would love to finally settle things with McGregor at the White House, if he were a betting man, he wouldn’t bet on the fight happening.

“I would love to fight against Conor. That’s definitely a platform that would maybe get Conor on the straight and narrow… If you’re a betting man, I wouldn’t bet on it.”

As Chandler went on to explain, however, regardless of whether a Conor McGregor fight comes to fruition, fans should bet the house on him fighting on the historic card.

The big question, of course, is if Chandler doesn’t fight McGregor, who should he fight?
