Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was out of mandatory minicamp after aggravating his shoulder. New quarterback Daniel Jones received most of the first-team reps after Richardson’s injury.
A reporter asked Jones after the third day of mandatory minicamp how he views Richardson going down and if it’s a moment to “seize the job.” Here’s what Jones said:
“Like you would in any situation. Just trying to prepare and grow with it every day,” Jones said. “I’ve got a lot of work to do just learning this offense and getting used to it. So, trying to focus as much on that and then playing good football when I’m on the field at practice.”
Jones emphasized being prepared to play in any situation for any player in the league, while learning the offense and building relationships with teammates.
Jones Reportedly Looks “As Advertised”

Fox 59 reporter Mike Chappell writes that Daniel Jones looks as advertised in practice, while Richardson was taking some mental reps.
“Jones has maximized two months of work with his new team – there already seems to be a connection with Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, rookie Tyler Warren and others – and shown the efficiency that was evident but not nearly enough during his six seasons with the New York Giants,” Chappell wrote.
“The football generally came out of his hands quickly and decisively, and found its intended target.”
Warren spoke to reporters and confirmed that there is a connection between the pair.
“We work together when we get the new installs…He’s one of my better friends and we help each other and go through stuff the day before,” Warren said.
If Jones were to win the Colts’ starting QB job come week one, the team could have an elite QB-TE duo next season.
Anthony Richardson Got Second Opinion on Shoulder

GettyIndianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson is entering his third year with the team.
Anthony Richardson met with Dr. Neal ElAttrache for a second opinion regarding his injury.
ElAttrache did the procedure on Richardson’s first AC joint sprain that required the QB to be shut down the rest of his rookie season.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Richardson did get a second opinion, with the quarterback set to continue rehab. The head coach mentioned that there is no timetable for when Richardson will return to practice.
Steichen said that once the former Florida Gator is cleared to throw again, the team will ease him back into the swing of things.
Before Richardson got the second opinion, Steichen said that he believes his quarterback will return to the team at some point during training camp. The Colts have yet to release their training camp schedule for the upcoming season.
