Dave Roberts Delivers Stirring Message to Dodgers After Epic Game 3 Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers clubhouse was buzzing well past midnight after one of the wildest World Series games in the history of the sport.

As Newsweek noted, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gathered his players after the marathon Game 3 win and sent a clear message that the job is not finished:

“I’m really proud of every one of you,” he told the team. “That was a pure fight out there. Nobody gave in, nobody hung their head, you all found a way to help us win.”

“Enjoy this one tonight,” he said, “but be ready to turn the page. We’ve got another game in less than 17 hours, and I want that same energy tomorrow. Wins like this show what we’re made of, but the job’s not done.”

Players said the message hit home after nearly seven hours of baseball that tested everyone on the roster.

“He just told us to stay locked in and keep pushing,” said Freddie Freeman, who ended the 6-5 win with his walk-off homer in the 18th inning.

“That’s kind of our identity, nobody tries to do too much. We just trust each other and find a way.”

A Game for the Ages

Game 3 of the World Series had everything: stars shining, relievers emptying the tank, and history being made deep into the Los Angeles night.

After a crazy first seven innings that included multiple errors, base running mistakes and big time home runs, Shohei Ohtani tied the game in the 7th inning on his second home run of the game.

Ohtani finished the game 4-4 with two home runs, a double, three RBIs and five walks. He tied a 119-year-old major league record with four extra-base hits in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night.

He reached base NINE total times in Game 3, setting the postseason record and tying the all-time MLB record for most times on base.

It was simply one of the greatest postseason performances we have ever seen. The craziest part is that those words were literally said ten days ago after Game 4 of the NLCS.

This game certainly had it all. Both teams combined for over 30 hits and 33 stranded runners, yet neither could push across a run for nine consecutive innings.

Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw even made an appearance in the 12th inning and came up with one of the biggest outs of the game with the bases loaded.

The Dodgers biggest hero, however, was Will Klein.

He pitched four shutout innings, pitching the 15th-18th innings as the last arm in the pen, and earning the win in just his second appearance this postseason ever.

Klein had never pitched more than 30 pitches in his life and last night he threw 72. Just an all time gutsy performance that will live on forever in Dodger history.

Finally, in the bottom of the 18th, Freddie Freeman ended the madness. For the second time in two years, Freeman hit a walk off home run in the World Series.

Focus Shifts to the Rest of the Series

That was a PIVOTAL and momentum changing win for the Dodgers who now lead the World Series 2-1.

But Roberts reminded his squad that there’s little time for celebration.

The Dodgers have less than 17 hours between the final out of Game 3 and the first pitch of Game 4. Roberts made that point clear in his postgame message:

“We keep fighting. We’ve got to turn the page fast.”

With Ohtani set to start Game 4, the Dodgers will look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

However, the Blue Jays have shown resilience throughout October, led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr historic postseason run,  and no one in the Dodgers clubhouse is assuming the fight is over.

While last night’s instant classic was one of the greatest baseball games played of all time, there is still so much baseball left to be played and the series is very far from over.
