England legend David Beckham has wished Gareth Southgate and the Three Lions good luck ahead of their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia.

Favourites for the tournament England begin their campaign in Germany on Sunday night.

The hopes for a nation ride on the likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, a position Beckham found himself in 20 plus years ago.

The Manchester United and Real Madrid icon is one of the country’s greatest ever players and captained the ‘Golden Generation’ at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups and Euro 2004.

Ahead of kick-off against Serbia, Beckham posted an emotional and encouraging message to the current generation of stars on Instagram.

‘Whether it was at home as a kid with a dream, or on the field as the captain of my country… wearing the England shirt made me feel so proud,’ he wrote.

‘Good luck to Gareth and the boys. Come on England.’

His message was accompanied by a picture of him as a kid wearing an England shirt with pride.

Southgate’s side against Serbia was as expected, with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold selected to start alongside Declan Rice in midfield.

‘There’s been a bit of time to work with the group this week and we are looking forward to seeing the players play,’ the manager said ahead of kick-off.

‘[Alexander-Arnold brings] the range of passing we don’t have elsewhere. We are likely to play against a back five and that is sometimes hard to break down and he will help us unlock them.

‘We have to be the best in both penalty boxes. The right mentality and the right emotional approach to the game is important.’
