Deadline Deal Proposal Sends $33 Million WR to the Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are 2-2 heading into their Week 5 bye, and while they’ve shown promise behind second year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and superstar running back Bijan Robinson, they still look a piece short of being a true playoff team.

Bleacher Report has an idea to fix that. In a recent piece on trades that could push fringe contenders over the top, Bleacher Report proposed a deal that would send Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to Atlanta for a 2026 fourth round pick.

On the surface, it looks like a simple swap. In reality, it could be the move that transforms the Falcons into legitimate contenders.

Through four weeks, the Falcons’ biggest issue has been the lack of reliable options in the passing game. In fact, Bijan Robinson is leading Atlanta in both rushing and receiving yards.

Drake London and Kyle Pitts are doing their part, but beyond them, production falls off a cliff. Darnell Mooney was signed to be that reliable third weapon but has managed just seven catches for 79 yards in his first three games with Atlanta.

No other Falcon outside of Robinson, London, and Pitts has even topped 80 receiving yards on the year.

For Penix, who’s still trying to establish rhythm and consistency in his rookie season, that’s a problem the front office can’t ignore.

Why Jakobi Meyers Fits the Falcons

Meyers isn’t a household name, but he’s one of the league’s most productive complementary receivers. After Davante Adams’ departure, he’s been forced into a WR1 role with the Raiders and is thriving, posting 21 catches for 258 yards on 33 targets through four weeks.

Slot him in as a WR2 behind London in Atlanta, and suddenly the Falcons’ offense looks completely different. Meyers brings route-running savvy, sure hands, and the ability to move the chains, exactly what Penix needs to grow as a passer.

With London, Pitts, Meyers, Mooney, and Robinson, the Falcons would quietly have one of the NFL’s more balanced skill position groups.

It also doesn’t hurt that Jakobi Meyers has been looking for a fresh start. He reportedly requested a trade this offseason, and Atlanta has both the need and the cap flexibility to take on his $33 million deal.

What makes this move even more appealing is the cost. According to B/R’s proposal, all it would take is a 2026 fourth round pick to land Meyers.

From Fringe to Contender

The Falcons haven’t been to the playoffs since 2017. Right now, they’re hovering in the middle of the NFC pack, a team with upside but also glaring holes. The NFC South is wide open, and Atlanta’s roster is talented enough to compete if the passing game gets one more reliable weapon.

That’s where Meyers comes in. He’s not a superstar, but he doesn’t have to be. What he brings is balance, stability, and an instant upgrade to an offense that leans too heavily on Robinson.

If the Falcons are serious about turning their 2-2 start into something more, this is the type of deal that could transform them overnight. A $33 million trade for Jakobi Meyers might be the move that finally turns Atlanta from hopeful to dangerous.
