Derek Carr Shares Strong Reaction to Maxx Crosby-Cowboys Trade Talk

There was quite a stir on Tuesday after Trey Wingo reported that the Dallas Cowboys reached out to the Las Vegas Raiders about a possible Maxx Crosby trade. The Raiders are 2-5 and coming off a rough loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, so there’s been speculation that they could be sellers at the trade deadline.

Crosby is the Raiders’ best player and most valuable asset. He would get the team a lot in return if they were to trade him. Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr played a lot of years with Crosby, and the two remain good friends. Though Carr didn’t have the best exit with the Raiders, he still holds a lot of love for the franchise.

He responded to the Crosby news and made it clear that he doesn’t think the defensive end should go anywhere.

“Dallas is nice, but don’t you dare leave the Raiders,” Carr said of Crosby on the “Home Grown” podcast.

NFL Network later reported that the Raiders are keeping the star pass rusher and won’t entertain trade offers, so it sounds like this is a non-issue. It also doesn’t sound like Crosby has plans to request a trade. He’ll continue trying to help build a winner in Las Vegas.

Raiders Urged to Be Sellers at Trade Deadline

Regardless of what happens with Crosby, the Raiders aren’t likely to be in the mix for a playoff spot this season. If teams are interested in any of their veterans not named Crosby, Las Vegas should strongly consider their options.

Ted Nguyen of The Athletic believes the Raiders should be sellers at the trade deadline.

“The Raiders are 2-5. They aren’t quite out of the playoff picture, but they look lifeless,” Nguyen wrote. “The offense has been a major disappointment. Their best player, tight end Brock Bowers, has missed three games and has been hobbled since Week 1, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for how ineffective they’ve been. They have young receivers to develop, so Jakobi Meyers should be on the trade block, and he can help a playoff team. The Raiders reportedly will hang on to defensive end Maxx Crosby because of everything he means to them on and off the field, but if they get a godfather offer, they should consider it. This franchise looks like one that is years away from competing.”

Raiders Players Team Could Have Interest In

Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and Crosby are the obvious players teams could trade for. However, they aren’t the only ones who could garner some interest.

2024 second-round pick Jackson Powers-Johnson is clearly on the coaching staff’s bad side. It might be better for him to get a fresh start elsewhere. Backup quarterback Aidan O’Connell is nearing a return from injury and has starting experience. He could interest a team needing a quarterback.

Tight end Michael Mayer is always going to be second fiddle to Brock Bowers, but could be a No. 1 tight end on another team. If the Raiders receive a strong offer for him, it’s something they’d have to consider, even though they like Mayer a lot.
